Summary: The compounds 1-3 are prepared as the potential anti-HIV
agents. The Tm values demonstrate that 1 and 2 bind moderately well to
calf thymus DNA and poly dA*dT. The binding of 1 and 2 to poly A*U, model
for RNA, is significant but more modest. Compound 3 fails to bind to both
types of nucleic acids. The values (ca. 0.3) of the slope of log kapp vs -
logŠNa+Ć for 1 and 2 are consistent with that of the naphthlenedimides
(o.3) and different from the classically intercalating dication propidium
(0.56). The results from studies of salt concentrations on cinetics of
binding to DNA clearly demonstrate that both compounds with extensive
planar aromatic cores 1 and 2 are threading intercalators. It is
interesting that compound 3, also a symmetrical diamide does not bind to
either type of nucleic acid. The failure of 3 to bind to DNA can be
explained based upon the non-planar geometry of 3. MM2 calculations predict
that the amide functional group is twisted significanzly from the plane of
the vinyl thiophene unit. Such twisted structures are not expected to
provide good fits to intercalation cavities.

Summary: Continuing our investigation on the synthesis and
fluorescence properties of 2-aryl- and 2-heteroarylbenzothiazoles, in
present work we synthesized some new compounds of this group. For all new
substances ultraviolet absorption and fluorescence emission spectra were
taken in ethanol and these characteristics have been discussed as a
function of the heteroatom and the position of the benzothiazole ring.

photochemicaldehydrohalogenation reaction of corresponding
benzodithiophenedicarboxdianilides and
dithienothiophenedicarboxdianilides.Mechanism of the twofold photochemical
dehydrohalogenation are discussed. The fragmentation way in the mass
spectra is determuned on the corresponding dianilides from which
diquinolones were prepared.It was noticed C-C cleavage of the another
anilido group.
