Summary: The in vitro effects of Met-enkephalin on NK-activity of
humanperipheral blood lymphocytes was tested. Basal NK-activity wasmildely
suppressed by Met-enkephalin (10-8M) in 22 donors. Mildstimulation of
NK-activity induced by IL-2, was potentiated,whereas the stronger one was
decreased by Met-enkephalin.Similarly, weak suppression of NK-activity
induced byDexamethasone, was potentiated by Met-enkephalin (10-12M,10-10M).
These effects were mediated through opioid and nonopioidreceptors. cAMP was
involved in transduction of the signal.
