Summary: In the developed countries the protection of man's
environmenthas become the most influencing factor in the development
ofmotor fuels. Measures that can still provide favourable resultsin our
conditions, are the decrease of lead content or itscomplete removal from
motor gasolines. Under the circumstances the current situation in Croatia
should be respected, i.e. thestructure of motor pool as well as well as the
duration of itsexploitation. Investigations carried out the registered pool
ofmotor vehicles in Croatia point to the production trend ofunleaded
gasoline RON 95 and premium gasoline of RON 98.

Summary: The intensive economic development demands among other
thingsalso larger and larger quantities of various sources and forms
ofenergy, which is contributing to an increasing degree ofenvironment
polution. The degree of polution is dependent on thesource and the form of
energy which is being used. For thatreasons ecological problems become more
and more complicated ,since the environment pollution seriously threatens
to endangerlife on our planet. he development of the cities, particulary
thelarge ones and the approach to the elaboration of city planninghave
considerably neglected the treatment of negative effects, which resulted
from the use of particular sources and forms ofenergy. In conditions of
market economy when alternative optionsof energy sources are posible, the
decision about the source andthe form of energy is an important one. The
compability ofsources and forms of energy is an important factor in
theenergetics of the country with the price of energy playing
anincreasingly important use of energy. One of the energy sourceshaving
considerable advantages in terms of energy, economy andecology, compared to
the other fossil fuels but also to theelectric current, which has been used
for heating, cooking andpreparation of hot water, is natural gas.

Summary: Strategic planning is a creative business activity means
for thechoice of optimal resources, ways and manners for the futurebusoness
management on the basis of the present business. Thisbusiness function has
been neglected in the national economy so far, and the role of planning has
been merely formal. Businessand development policy of the enterprises in
terms of non-marketeconomy and socially owned property, has not been based
on theanalyses of the passed, the present or the future
marketingenvironment. By undergoing the liberalization of
economicrelations, as well as by creating market economy and byundergoing
the privatisation of the enterprises under thecircumstances of democratic
changes of the society, theconditions for the new approach to planning have
also beencreated. In the paper the potential methodological frame
ofstrategic planning in national oil companies is being researchedas e.g.:
elements and types of planning, planing phases, planningconditions,
implementation of plans as well as some planningconcepts and methods.
Strategic planning in World oil companiesis also being researched.

Summary: Every evaluation of energy consumption changes without
thepossibillity of comparison, represents a separated value withoutany
practical significance. For that reason, the energy relationshave been
compared by observing the structure of energyconsumption in the city of
Zagreb, during the longer period oftime. The comparison includes the
consumption of solid and liquidfuels, electric current and natural gas,
with a purpose todetermine the role of natural gas in the changes of
energyconsumption, that have taken place in Zagreb. The presentedstructure
of energy consumption enables the complete insight inthe presented state.
The growing tendencies of natural gasconsumption have an objective support
in production possibilitiesof Croatia, but also in import activities.

Summary: In the paper is studied the problem of the financing
investmentin the national oil companies in Croatia. The investment
activityis analysed from 1970 to 1990, specially its inplications(debats,
efficiency etc) to present and future oil andpetrochemical economics. Also,
in the paper are studied therelations and the influences of some factors to
the investmentactivity in the oil companies, as: the economic growth and
thestructure, the energy growth, the social-cultural environment, the
economic and the political system etc. The political andeconomic changes
leading to the market economy have influencedthat the national oil
companies today can use wider range ofsources for financing investment than
in the past. These are: theshares, the obligations and other value papers.
The legistativepossibilities and terms for foregin investmens are better
too. But, in the present situation (1991) the war in Croatia, political and
economic factors are great threats for theinvestment in the oil industry,
its development and growth.

Summary: Operations involved with exploration for oil and gas as
well astechnological process engaged in preparation for their transportand
processing may be the frequent cause of an uncontrolledhydrocarbon spill
and pollution of the environment. Thespill/leakage can be the result of
various damage ontechnological systems, however, of the human factor as
well.
Mechanisms involved in hydrocarbon exspansion in the soil arevery complex
processes which are dependent on many factorsdiscussed in this paper. The
consequences of hydrocarbonpollution are disastrous for the soil and
revitalization of thehydrocarbon polluted soil is a complex and
time-consuming process.
The paper gives an overview not only of the mechanismsresponsible for
hydrocarbon expansion into the soil but also thepossible simple methods for
evaluation of the proportions ofpollution involved, as well as the primary
actions to be takenfor revitalization of the soil on destroyed Croatian
oilfields. These actions should come into force as soon as possible,
since,in some cases, it will take several years and more before thedamage
is completely removed and the soil restored.

Summary: The power supply policy of the EC countries is influenced
by anumber of factors playing an important role when it comes tomaking
decisions on energy production and consumptiondevelopment. Primarily, the
differences in the economicdevelopment of the said countries are
influencing the nationalproduct amount as well as public and private
standard. Besides, the number of inhabitans, their age, population density,
climate, tradition and habits have a significant share in profiling
powersupply policy of respectibe countries.
In the future, the role of technologies will be much bigger thanin the
past. Technological development should be directed inthree major ways:
- improve the efficiency in energy production, transformation, traffic and
use;
- develop new power supply systems in order to exploit energysources as
successfully as possible;
- reduce negative effects of energy use upon environment.

Summary: The globalisation is the process and present situation of
the newworld economy, of the social and political system, with
forwardcharacteristics: its appearness and the end of the industrial andat
the beginning of the postindustrial period; it is part of thelong term
structural changes; it catchs hold of the small and thelarge corporation
and the firms; the horizontal integration ofthe production trough many
countries and continents; thecomparative adventage on the world market etc.
The globalisation of the Croatian oil companies, today, is verylimmited. It
is expressed only in some activities, as explorationand production of oil,
engineering services, the export of theoil and petrochemocal products.
According to these globalactivities, the degre of the internalisation is
19,4%, and it ismuch lower then in the world large oil companies. The
mostimportant elements of globalisation (the firms in the foregincountries,
the own technology, the developed R&D, etc) are notpresent today.
According to the strategic aims, motivation, advantages andweakness, in the

Summary: Due to its burning properties and other characteristics,
liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) is a valuable energy source with a wide range
of application in developed countries.
The fact that in Croatia the annually produced surplus of LPG is exported
and that the LPG/air mixture is not used as an energy alternative, i.e. as
a predecessor to natural gas, was the starting point for this study.
A survey of LPG consumption in Croatia for the 1980-1990 period has been
given in the study, showing that LPG consumption is closely related to the
development of natural gas net expansion, i.e. that in areas with developed
natural gas consumption a significant reduction of LPG consumption has been
recorded.
Methods for reliably estabilishing the substitute LPG/air mixture as a
predecessor to natural gas are described in the study, and it is also shown
that it's essential for all the referent numbers to be within the limit
values. The actual advantage of LPG/air mixed gas application as the
predecessor to natural gas should be realized through the Croatian gas net
expansion project, where the mixed gas sa an energy alternative would be a
short-term solution for the gas net expansion of Rijeka, Pula and their
regions, a medium-term solution for the area of Central Dalmatia (Zadar,
Split, Šibenik...) and a long-term solution for the area of Southern
Dalmatia (Dubrovnik).

Summary: Over the past few years, the oil derivatives market in
Croatia has been through some significant changes which were a result of
lowered economic activity, a tourism and transit drop, as well as market
decrease in UNPA zones.
In 1993, a total of 2,781 million tons of oil derivatives was sold on the
Croatian market, which makes 3% more than in 1992, but still less than in
1990.
The oil derivatives prices in the past period were stable and at the level
of those in the neighbouring countries.
The gasoline stations metwork has slowly been expanding, Whereas the share
of the "independent" ones has increased from 6 to 12% in 1993.

Summary: The function of the strategic planning implementation of
the Croatian oil companies in their management and planning process (as a
part thereof) is to select right aims of the prospective development, to
enable their implementation, and react on time to environment changes.
The organization and inplementation of the strategic planning should be
realized on the levels, such as corporation, and its divisions. The process
comprises as well the parts of enterprises - the strategic business units
(SBU), but also the product groups and the products.
The main elements of the planning system of oil companies are: mission,
targets, tasks and strategies, plans, programmes, but also methods,
planning organization, equipment, employees, etc. Each of these elements
has its function and place in the planning process schedule. In the present
situation of the national oil economy, the formulation and implementation
of various strategies are very important, and imperative. The corporation's
divisions should have different strategies, concerning its past development
and possibilities in the future.

Summary: By its transition to market economy, Croatia shall face
significant business changes regarding the oil products trade. One among
these changes is also putting gasoline stations out to lease, which is
customary in the world, but has begun its implementation in our country
only recently.
Through a comparative analysis, the autor has attempted to give a review of
the relations existing in this area in Croatia and Ausria, the later being
considered a tipically steady market.
The analysis shows that the conditions under which lessees are acting in
Croatia are basically quite levelled, particulary with respect to the oil
products sale.
The analysis also shows that the lessee's profit lies in the additional
sale of various kinds of merchandise as well as in offering carwash service
and the like.

Summary: Within overall efforts made towards environmental and
health protection, minimum demands and test methods of the Committee for
European Normization (CEN) regarding diesel fuel (EN 590:1993) have been
elaborated and published. Fuel quality tests performed at European fuel
stations during the winter of 1992/1993 have shown that European
refineries have met the requested standards by advancing their technology
and applying additives.
The desired economic integration of the Republic of Croatia into European
economic flows and the need of exporting oil processing products makes it
necessary for INA's refineries to make the same advancements.

Summary: The paper presents the mathematical model of hydrophobic
matters spreading across the surface as well as their infiltration to the
soil. The paper shows by experiments the proved justification and
application of the presented model based on spherical shapes characteristic
of hydrophobic matters.
It is possible to determine their forms by means of an iterative procedure
at any instant of polluting agent spreading and thus compute the size of
polluted area as well as depth of infiltration.

Summary: The present paper is a continuation of the author's attempt
to segment the Croatian oil products market per consumption sectors.
The methodological approach is identical to that used in previous works on
oil products market segmentation in Croatia from 1986 to 1990 ("Nafta" No
4-5/92) and from 1991 to 1992 ("Nafta" No 11/93).
This fills the void which the official statistics is still not capable of
filling, creating, at the same time, the basis for further research of oil
products and energy market in Croatia.

Summary: The feasibility of constructing an alkylation process is
again becoming topical in Croatia.
This brief review, considers new development of alkylation processes as a
contribution to the consideration of their feasibility.
In the case of HF alkylation, the basic development aims at building in
acid coolers and secondary acid-storage tanks, for the purpose of keeping
HF within the system. It is well-known that not even the smallest HF
quantities are allowed to be released into the atmosphere, because of
adverse impacts of fluorine in compounds on the ionosphere.
A particulary interesting process is the combination of TAME production and
its raffinate's alkylation. In this manner, motor gasoline blend stock is
obtained with good octane properties, without olefins, reducing aromatic
hydrocarbons and containing oxygenates, being a mandatory component under
some regulations.

Summary: Low oil products' prices on the world market over the past
few years, tending to further decrease, have brought the refinery margin to
a very low level from which it is more and more difficult to cover the
increased needs for investing into environmental protection and product
quality advancement, regarding particulary reduction of sulfur and
aromatics content in fuels.
Competitiveness on the world market is achieved only by the refineries that
are meeting the following requirement: maximum processing in secondary
plants, high capacity efficiency (90%), marginal dependence on on-the-spot
sale and the like.

Summary: Increased energy needs and their major coverage by oil
will, also in the next decade bear considerable influence on oil price
increase, estimated to go up from the present 17 S/b to about 25 S/b.
Increased requirements as regards motor fuel quality will also influence
oil products' selling prices, so that it would be safe to expect the fuel
prices (without tax) to go up for about 1/3. All this will efect the
development of the oil products' demand which is expected to increase at an
average annual rate of 0.5-0.6%. A faster increase in the motor fuel
demand, especially jet fuel, depending on taxes and diesel fuels, with
stagnation and drop in fuel oil consumption, will influence a structure
change in demand and future processing.

Summary: In the preparation of urethane-based elastomers, typical
compounds like isocyanates, hidroxylterminated polyesters, crosslynker
agent, and other necessary additives are used.
Laboratory tests proved the assumption that some base oil, high molecular
weight hydrocarbon fractions could be used instead of a weight part of
polyesters based on adipic acid and glycols. These polyesters represent soft
segments in urethane elastomers and are used where extreme wear resistance
is required.

Summary: Adequate accumulator capacity is necessary for a
reliableoperation of each, and particularly of subsea BOP stack.
By calculating a real accumulator capacity of working fluidaccording to the
equation of state for real gas, and by assumingthat the expansion of
nitrogen is polytropic change of state, more accurate parameters on usable
volume of working fluid can beobtained.
Taking into consideration a thermodynamics of change of stateduring
nitrogen compression or expansion, and assuming that itbehaves in
accordance to laws for real and not perfect gas, wecan obtain more accurate
and realistic correlations amongparameters which determine necessary
voluming of accumulatorsfor BOP control units.

Summary: The structural changes in the natural gas consumption are
the results of many factors. First of all availability and supply
reliability as well as the energetic, economical and ecological advantages
of gas compared to coal, oil and electric power, which could be easily
substituted with natural gas.
The development of the free market for energy products, equipment,
materials and services, along with the access to energy sources, creates
the actual presumptions for natural gas consumption.
Therefore the yearly increase of gas consumption for the period from 1990
to 2005 is expected to be 5,2% (world) and in the countries of the European
Community (12) 8,1%.

Summary: Each economy growth depends upon to energy production
growth. Global energy production could be classified according to the three
developing stages.
Initial rate of growth of the first period is approximated by the power
function. During the second period of the entirely industrialism, the rate
of growth follows in exponential function. Nevertheless, each exponential
growth must stop according to post-industrial development which one leads
to the start concerning the power function or even linear function.
The days of plenteous fossil fuels have clearly vanished, and as other
energy forms cannot be substituted as quickly as possible. By the power
function future energy demand could be adjusted to move off an extended
fossil fuels peak to attain an equilibrium energy ballance with renewable
sources among them is biomass or biogas as well.

Summary: Due to possible extent of the polution by hydrocarbons in
oilfields, a simple prognosing method is proposed in order toestimate the
spread and depth of pollutant penetration into soiland eventually into
groundwatter. The suggested method can besimple applied on all oilfields,
because it does not require acomplex and expensive equipment. The
interpretation of obtainedresults is simple as well.
Testing real soil samples, their pollution by oil andestabilishing the
standards for comparing results, this methodcan be applied for all types of
soil. This is especiallyimportant, because our oil fields are located in
river-basinareas, where each accident can cause a large-scale pollution.
That is the reason why it is important to know certain parametersof spread
and penetration of pollutants into soil, in order tocarry out necessary
technical-technological operations cuold betaken to prevent their
dispersion, as well as some measures ofprimary sanation of the polluted
area.

Summary: These researches have shown the way in which the final
mathematical solution could be approached starting from the term of Van der
Waals although they very term is extremely roundabout including also
numerous additional estimates based on measured tabular values of the gas
tables. So the procedure has been uninterruptedly controlled through both
mainfold secondary checking and comparisons to real gases. The final
results of my researches is represented by four equations which originally
come from mutual relations between the temperature and entalphy. These own
and original results could be presented as follows:
- minima of isotherms;
- maxima of enthalpies;
- rule of one half;
- dual equation of real gases.
