Summary: The method of the underwater vessel noise detection, in
this paper is discussed. It is assumed that the underwater vessel noise is
a sum of normal stochastic process and harmonic components in the proximity
of the vessel. But, in the sea location that is far away from the vessel,
the underwater vessel noise is supposed to be a normal stochastic process,
the sum of the two essential parts statistically independent: the one
wideband due to the vessel cavitation and the narrowband owing to the
operating machinery, mechanisms and propeller. The probability density
function for the instantaneous values of the underwater vessel noise
waveform is considered also. Finally, the likelihood ratio and the
algorithm of optimum detection of the underwater vessel noise in the sea
noise is developed. The optimum detection probability measure is given,
too.
