Summary: Method for the shape optimization of Francis turbine
spiral casing is proposed. The method uses incompressible potential flow
model and finite elements for flow analysis. The shape of the spiral casing
is parametrized with a finite number of parameters and the object function
becomes a function of finite number of variables. Minimization of the
object function with the conjugate gradient method gives a solution of this
shape optimization problem.

Summary: This paper presents the shape optimization method for
turbomachinery spiral casing design. The method consists of the finite
element compressible potential flow solver and constraint conjugate
gradient optimizer. The efficency of the method is improved by the domain
decomposition technicque. The goal, the circumferentialy constant
distribution of the spiral casing outflow velocities is achieved by finer
shape parametrization of the tongue and its neighbourhood.

Summary: The flow in the spiral casing of a Francis turbine is
modelled by potencial flow using finite element model. Software was
developed for mesh generation, model solution, pre- and postprocessing. The
rate of convergence, measured in outflow velocity angle convergence, was
tested numerically. For accuracy of 2% between two succesive mesh
refinements not more then 5 elements in radial and 3 in axial direction are
needed, while the number of elements in circumferential direction was kept
unchanged.

Summary: The equation for the power given by incompressible
fluid to the hydraulic turbomachine with constant speed of rotation of
impeler is derived. starting with the law of change of kinetic energy for
the fluid body contained in stream tube surrounding impeler in two
different coordinate systems we arrive at the final form of the equation
where the first part is classical Euler equation of turbomachinery and
aditional parts, depending on the shape of stream tube and instationarity
of the flow.

Summary: The numerical model for transient states of water in a
pipeline of a hydroelectric plant is presented. The fundamental idea is
that theese transients are superposition of two phenomena. This leads to a
nonlinear initial - boundaty value problem to which we apply the method of
characteristics. The implementation of this model in our simulation program
gives good results as it can be seen from the comparison between computed
and measured data.

laminar flow modelling of incompressible viscous fluid utilizing
quadrilateral isoparametric elements. The Galerkin weighted residual method
has been chosen with discretization of directional derivative of velocita.
Two test cases for lid driven cavity flow, for low and high Reynolds

Summary: The velocity fields of fresh air flow at the entrance
of a ventilation system, in front of fans, working separately and together,
were measured using an anemometer and specially chosen raster of points. A
computer program is developed for the calculation of volume rate based on
measured velocities. At the same time, the pressure at three different
cross-sections, in front of and behind the fans, was measured with
differential manometer. It is found that the volume rate calculated from
the static pressure measurements is in very good correlation with the
volume rate calculated from the velocity measurements.

Summary: Modeling of antural convection is very important for
engineering design. This paper presents the results of two-dimensional
numerical analysis of natural convection of air in tall laterally heated
cavities obtained using the adequate commercial software package. The
analysis is carried out calculating the corresponding heat flux for
different widths of cavity (Rayleigh numbers) and the existance of maximum
heat flux is found. The results of this analysis are applied on the natural
convection of air between window glasses.

Summary: This paper presents decomposition method for the
solution of incompressible potential flow in multy-connected domain with
periodic boudary. Kutta-Joukowsky condition comes as a condition for
determination of arbitrary parameters in multy-connected domain. Finite
element formulation gives linear systems with the same symetric matrix and
the computation costs are equal to the costs of a solution of the linear
system for simply-connected domain.

Summary: In this paper, the possibility of numereical modelling
of a complex phenomena such as three-dimensional ntural convection is
presented. The results obtained with three-dimensional model are compared
with the ones obtained using two-dimensional model, and the additional
effects obtained with three-dimensional model arae emphasised. From the
analysis carried out, fine correlation of results obrtained with
two-dimensional and three-dimensional model is observed in certain
situations, and that assures cheaper and more detailed analysis. On the
other hand, todays software and hardware assure even the efficient
three-dimensional analysis.

Summary: The modelling and analysis of pressure transients in
pipelines is important for preventing damages and environment pollution in
hydroelectric power plants, ships, off-shore objects etc. This paper
presents a numerical model of pressure transients in a series of pipes with
different boundary conditions imposed by reservoirs, pumps or valves. The
model is tested on known results and applied to the analysis of an oil
containing pipeline with upstream and downstream reservoirs and pumps and
valves connected by series of pipes. The connection between valve closure
time and amplitude and shape of the pressure fluctuation curve is evident
from our results.

Summary: Today exists a lot of good models for the numerical
simulation of tidal propagation in shallow waters. This paper presents the
special mathematical model for propagation of tidal waves in estuaries.
Numerical solution of the two-dimensional shallow water equations is
achieved by coupling the finite elements with collocation economical model.
The model is tested on the open rectangular channel for which exists the
exact solution. The numerical results are applied to the Massachussetts Bay
and Rijeka Bay

Summary: Flow of water in open channels is turbulent. For
calculation of discharge from measured velocities at the grid points on the
given cross-section, it is necessary to choose interpolation functions from
the theory of turbulent flow. For boundary layer we need the law of the
wall and for the core of the cross-section the defect velocity law. Theese
two laws use the logarythm function. This paper presents the method for
calculation of discharge which uses Coons surfaces with logarythm functions
on the boundary. This method is applied for the analysis of hydraulic
measurement in the HE Senj done in 1994.

Summary: Modelling of laminar flow of incompressible viscous
fluid is of great importance in engineering. Navier-Stokes equations serve
as model equations for turbulence modelling. We apply discretization of
velocity directional derivative in an iterative solution method. For
numerical solution we use Galerkin weighted residual method and finite
approximation with eight node isoparametric elements for velocity
components and four nodes superparametric elements for pressure to avoid
pressure solution oscillations.
