Summary: Root piles can be effectively used in an array of structuresin order to resolve a variety of technical problems. Theequipment used in their installation is relatively simple.Despite this fact, when taking a wider view, on eis confrontedwith the conclusion they are not applied to the exent that oughtto be expected. The reason is partly the price of theinstallation equipment commonly in use and partly in theunfamiliarity with possibilities of adapting other, otherwiseoften avaiable and cheaper technologies.

Title: Protection of the Excavations by mins of small Diameters Piles. Summary: Small diameter piles could be effectively in order to solve a number of geotechnical assignments. Their practical advantage lines in the fact that they can be installed using makeshift techniques wich could be adjusted to a specific site or to the technological means of a contractor. The paper deals with the protections of the excavation and adjacent buildings by means of small diameter steel piles. Static analysis of the retaining structure is described. Keywords: Diven root piles, excavation, protection.

    Held: from 06/01/93 to 06/05/93
Summary: The cylindrical ground anchors has gained wide acceptance as aneconomical and highly versatile anchoring method over the pastdecade, particularly due to fast and simple performance by usingthe soil/rock boring and grouting procedure. The paper isconcerning with the set of data and results which are collectedafter the in situ investigations of some 30 short verticalanchors installed in clay and in silty sand, as well. The bearingcapacity of cylindrical and spherical anchors were also compared. Spherical cavity at the bottom of the borehole was produced bycontroled point blasting effect, which was studied in the firstplace. Finally, the proper analytical method for estimation ofthe ultimate uplift capacity was established, This model hasshowed a good agreement with field test pullout results.

Summary: In this paper an interaction mechanism anchor-soil is describedfor the case of short vertical spherical anchors installed in ac-í soil. Commencement is made with the eqiulibrium state theory of Vesić(1965) for the case of expanding spherical cavity located at theshallow depth under the soil surface. The bearing capacity formulas Vesić derived separately forcohesionless and for cohesive soils. It is shown in the paper howthe above stated work of Vesić has been adapted to the sphericaltail anchors. The ultimate bearing capacity equation, which isgiven for such anchors, is derived for a c-í soil.

Meeting: Drugi Radni sabor "Graditelji u obnovi Hrvatske"
    Held: from 10/13/93 to 10/15/93
Summary: The forthcoming renewal of Croatia will be realized mostly in twomain civil engineering ways: 1) Construction of new facilities(new buildings) and 2) Remedial works of damaged and neglectedfacilities. Both of these civil engineering activities will be,without doubt, quite expensive, but concerning remedial worksthere is also involved an increasing risk of partial or entirefailure. This could happen if the concept of remedial works wouldbe based on a wrong diagnosis, or even without any diagnosis.

Summary: During the war devastations, which still last in the Republic ofCroatia, we are witnesses of the unprecedented suffering of ourpeople, cultural and material dgoods. Many of the economicfacilities are destroyed or demaged, particularly the trafficrouts, bridges and accompaining facilities and equipment. All these structures will require extensive, well organized butquite expensive renewal. The proper restauration of the existingbridge foundations and construction of the new ones, willundoubtedly have significantly role in that renewal works. Thebasic designations of the accessment to those activities arecomprised in this paper.

Summary: The comprised risk concept, considered as a way of thinking, canbe generally applied to the broad range of the human activities, but in the paper it will be considered from the civil engineeringpoint of view. In such a severe situation, as it is in theRepublic of Croatia right now, when the country devastated by thewar has to be rapidly but responsibly renovated, this concept isgeting a strategical importance. Its essential meaning is reducedto the search of the optimal measure among the main categorieswhich go along the certain civil engineering project fulfilment. The comprised risk concept ought to be of the special importanceat the traffic routes construction.

Summary: Authors of the paper are attempting to illustrate thepossibility of forming small-diameter piles as means ofreinforcing and remedial of foundations by the use of readilyavailable resources and equipment. Many civil engineering firms or enterpreneurs own all sortsof drilling tools and, as far as we know, these happen to bethe most important part of the equipment required to realizesimilar interventions. Providing at the same time an adequatetechnique of poring the concrete for filling the piles, weconsider that, technologically speaking, there is no realobstacle that such piles be in reality formed.

    Meeting: Geotehnika prometnih građevina
    Held: from 10/05/94 to 10/08/94
Summary: The operative wharf No. 5 in the Port Ploče complex was built back in 1967, in a total length of 507,70 m. The wharf structure is founded upon a series of vertical reinforced concrete piles, 120 cm in diameter and 40 m long. As from the very beginning of the operation deformations (horizontal displacement) larger than expected appected, the wharf structure suffered domage. On the basis of existing data on measured displacements of the wharf structure, as well as the reconnaissance of condution of reinforced concrete piles, numerical analyses were undertaken in order to define the relationship betveen internal forces in piles und loadings within the observed section of the wharf. Thus the relationship betveen the observed damages on piles and possible load intensities on the depot were established. Remedial works at the most imperilled section of the wharf structure are foreseen. Two basic approaches were analyzed: eitehr to remedy the existing damaged piles, or to remedy the wharf by placing additional piles. The latter solution was adopted as more advantageous, so that the final design had been prepared along these lines.

Title: Main Features od Design Analysis of Prestressed Geotechnical Anchors

    Authors:
    Muhovec, Ivan (151325)
    Editors
    Mavar, Ramon
    Proceedings title: Priopćenja 1

    Place: Zagreb
    Year: 1995
    Pages: from 51 to 58
Meeting: Geotehnički problemi u urbanim sredinama
    Held: from 10/04/95 to 10/06/95
Summary: The application of geotechnical anchores has become more recognized lately and there are much more designers who try to improve their design solutions with the use of geotechnical anchorages. Prestressed geotechnical anchores are specially efficient in those cases when the displacements of the particular geotechnical system should be maintly elimineted. Buildings with underground storeys which should be interpolated within urban zones can sometimes fit well into restricted spaces of the neighbouring existing buildines, just with the use of prestressed geotechnical anchorages. In order to define allthe important elements upon which depend the quality of anchorage functioning it is necessary to carry out a proper geostatical analysis, which primarily has to solve the question of the relationship between prestressing and selfstressing as like the question of free anchor length and anchrage length. In this paper some of the practical experiences from this field are shortly presented.

    Authors:
    Ivandić, Krešo
    Proceedings title: Prooceedings
    Language: engleski
    Year: 1994
    Pages: from 51 to 54
Meeting: 8th European Young Geotechnical Engineering Conference
    Held: from 09/05/94 to 09/09/94
Summary: In the project the relationship of pile deformation and its potential energy at horizontal load by ship impact was investigated. The main scope was to determine the distribution of potential energy to the bar and the soil. The mentioned energies balance the kinetic energy of a ship during impact with on- shore structure. The pile model was a vertical bar in the Winkler's space subjected to horizontal impact and a bar in the elastic half-space (Mindlin's model).
