Summary: This study presents the development of an exponential model for the description of kinetics in the drying process of a porous material under the condition of dielectric heating. The model describes the changes in moisture content and in the rate of drying related to the duration of the process, as well as the moisture content in the material to be dried with the power of microwave drying as parametre. The item defined is the functional dependence of the model coefficients on the power of the microwave drying. An expression to compute the drying time as the function of the moisture content in the sample and the power of the microwave drying is suggested. The results of the experiment and those obtained from the application of the model based on the computed ratio between the moisture content and dry matter correspond to an extraordinarily high degree.
Keywords: microwave drying, drying kinetics, clay-plate, simulation of drying kinetics.

Summary: The kinetics of the convection drying process of flat tiles has been investigated by experimentation in the industrial tunnel dryer. It was found that the an exponential model of the type: B(t) = aEXP(-bt2), (-dB(t)/dt) = 2btB(t) has physical significance and correlates the kinetics of the whole tile-drying process. Applying the maximum allowed drying rate curve obtained for a flat tile in the first period of drying, a grapho-analityc model for the optimal management of the process has been developed.
Keywords: convection drying, porous material, flat tile, maximum allowed drying rate curve.

Summary: With regard to informatics technology use for analysis, simulation and process control in modern process engineering it is necessary to have mathematical models. This was initiative to investigate the possibility of use exponential function (t) = aEXP(-ktn), (-d(t)/dt) = nkt(n-1)(t) as mathematical model for food products drying kinetics. In this matter the numerical regression method was used. It was found that this exponential function can be successfully used as mathematical model for drying of barley, malt, carrot and pea in fluidized bed with vibrating screen and plum drying in deep fixed bed. This attend to possible application of this model as one of the fundamentals for simulation an process control of food products drying.

Summary: The calculation algorithm for physical and thermodynamic parameters of humid air in the non saturated region for temperature interval from 0oC< < 374.15oC and under atmospheric pressure were developed. This algorithm enables the calculation of humid air condition parameters on the basis of only two known input parameters, for example air dry- and wet-bulb temperature or relative air humidity and temperature. Since, the basic parameters needed for calculation; the equilibrium partial pressure of water vapour and specific heat of dry air and water vapour, are temperature dependent and tabulated in discrete intervals, it is necessary to use approximate analytic expressions for such functional dependencies. In this case, the spline interpolation method was applied on input data. This method enables exact calculation of physical and thermodynamic properties of humid air in the whole non saturated region and for chosen temperature interval. Besides, this algorithm can be a part of an integral algorithm used for computer analysis, simulation and control of all the processes that include humid air manipulation.
Keywords: numeric calculation, humid air, humid air condition, spline interpolation.

Summary: The microwave drying of industrialy prepared leather has been experimentally investigated in laboratory scale. The experiments were performed at three different microwave heating power. Measuring the mass of the sample through the drying duration, the kinetics drying curves were obtained. For correlation of experimental results the exponential model X=(a-Xeq)exp(-btd)+Xeq and its differential forme has been applied. Results obtained show high level of correlation, and strong relationship between applied microwave power and drying time (rate), type of leather sample and their pretreatement (vacuum and sidewise dewatering).
Keywords: drying, kinetics, leather, microwave heating.
