Summary: Mineral composition of recent sediments and sedimentation
patternin the estuary were analysed. The data on mineral assemblages
ofrecent sediments and of suspended matter from the Krka Riverestuary, are
discussed in relation to the main sources of recentsediments. The results
indicate the restricted zone of prevalentsedimentation of terrigenous
matter in the enlarged ProkljanBasin. The sedimentation rate in the estuary
was found to be verylow due to scarcity of input.

Summary: The gamma dose rates were calculated from the results of
gamma-spectrometric measurements of radionuclide concentrations in soils in
the region of the Istrian peninsula, Croatia. Calculated gamma dose rate
conversion factors (GDRCF) for external exposure above ground, give
external dose rates per unit of natural radionuclide concentration in the
soil and bedrock. The radiometric maps must take into consideration gamma
doses from soiuls as well as from underlying rocks in the first metre of
ground profile. This is of crucial importance especially for carbonate
terrains. Furthermore, for soils themselves the role of the drainage
network in in migration processes is undoubtedly very important. All these
dependenciesmake us believe that gamma-spectrometric measurements and
related dose rate conversion factors in connection with in situ dose
measurements could be the best method for radiometric mapping at least for
carbonate terrains with numerous rock outcrops, poor drainage and
lithological variability on a local scale.

Summary: A case report of an 18 year-old female patient with
juvenile rheumatoid monoarthritis (JRA) of the knee joint, whose treatment
the authors have been following up during the last 14 years is presented.
Previously known and reported difficulties and complications in the
diagnosis of chronic juvenile rheumatoid monoarthritis are realated with
special reference to a specific case, a female patient in whose case the
correct diagnosis and adequate treatment was begun three tears after the
first onset of symptoms. At the age of 15, the patient developed knee
ankylosis of 20 degrees in flexion. Following this desarthodesis of the
knee joint, cementless total knee arthroplasty was performed. Total knee
arthoplasty helped to correct the previously present inegality of the lower
extremities. The presented case once again confirms that in selected JRA
patients cementless knee arthoplsty can achieve excellent results.

Summary: The paper deals with the role of particulates, their
sedimentation pattern and adsorption properties in transfer of trace metals
from land to sea. The rapid sedimentation of fine grained, mostly clay
mineral particles in a small rock-bounded disequllibrium salt-wedge estuary
is enhanced by the flocculation process. Most of the heavy metals
accumulation in the proximity of the river mouth due to adsorption to clay
minerals

Summary: Natural gamma-activity in soils is the result of
radionuclideconcentrations in parent rocks, complex biogeochemical
processesand human activities. Natural gamma-activity in carbonate
derivedsoils is about 550 bq/kg, relatively uniformly distributed,
andcomprises about 64% of measured gamma-activity. The lowestactivity were
observed in very well drained soils derived fromthe Middle and Upper
Eocene flysch sediments.

Summary: The gamma dose rate were calculated from the results of
spectrometric measurements of radionuclide concentrations in soils in the
area of Istria peninsula, Croatia. Samples were taken in regular 5X5 km
grid along 15 cm deep soil profile. The preliminary results clearly reveal
the dependence of the natural gamma doses on the lithological
characteristics of the bedrock units. Furthermore, for soils itself the
role of drainage network in migration processes is undoubtedly very
important. The concetrations of radionuclide also depend of the type and
parameters of soils like pH, organic content, contents of various other
micro and macro components etc.
