Summary: Any kind of dialysis membrane could be apply in acute renal
failure but the advantage should be given to hemophan membranes sterilized
by steam or gama and with medium efficiency for BUN, because thay have a
lower impact on hoemostasis which could be important in such patients.

Summary: Renal osteodystrophy is well-known complication of advanced
renal failure, particularly in patients treated by dialysis. Disease
involves the entire mineral metabolism and cause various disturbances of
several organic systems, especialy bones, muscles, the cardiovascular
system, brain and skin. It is characterized by multifactorial
etiopathogenesis which cause considerable variations in clinical
characteristics. In 100 uremic patients on maintenance dialysis we
performed transiliacal bone biopsy and histomorphometry of undecalcified
bone spacimens with specific aluminum staining who did not differ in
clinical, biocemical or radiological characteristics. However,
histomorphometric analysis of bone revealed significant differences among
the patients: 85,7% of patients who have been on dialysis for less than
five years have mixed uremic osteodystrophy, but among those who have been
on dialysis more than five years, hyperparathyreoidism was found in 82%.
Only 4% of patients revealed low-turnover osteomalacia with significant
aluminum deposit on the surface of mineralized bone and all of them have
been on dialysis for more tha 10 years. Plasma levels of cPTH, as well as
ultrasonografy signs of enlarged parathyroid glands, correlated only with
fibrosis.

Summary: In 100 regularly dialysed patients various sex, age and
duration of dialysis period, who suffered of the bone pain we performed
transiliacal bone biopsy and histomorphometric analysis of undecalcified
bone specimens. Patients were not differ significantly according to the
clinical, biochemical and radiological characteristics but we found
significant differences in histomorphometric characteristics. Among the
analysed patients who have been on dialysis less than five years 85,7% have
Mixed uremic osteodystrophy, but among themwho have been on dialysis more
than five years we found in 82% hyperparathyroidism. Only 4% revealed
low-turnover osteomalacia with significant aluminum deposis on the surface
of mineralized bone. We found correlation between the age and bone osteoid
volume and between the duration of dialyse period and osteoid voulme,
fibrosis, osteoblast-interface and osteoclast-interface in unselected
population, but no any correlation between them inside of each subgroups of
renal osteodystrophy. Thus, it seems that such correlation we found are due
to increasing impact of hyperparathyreoidism rather than other factors.

Summary: We compared results of histomorphometric analysis of
undecalcified bone specimen obtained by transiliacal bone biopsy in uremic
patients on CAPD and those one on regular hemodialysis. Twenty patients
were rendered in ten pairs comparable in age, sex, period on dialysis, type
of renal disease as well as in lack of significant concomittant disease.
Patients on CAPD had significantly lower osteoid volume, fibrosis volume,
osteoblast-interface and osteoclast-interface in comparing with those one
on hemodialysis.
