Summary: A method has been developed for the refinement of
parameters inthe determination of purity of substances by lowering the
meltingpoint and by applying Van t Hoff s equation. The parameterscovered
by the refinement are: molar ratio of impurity (x2), areacorrection under
the melting curve (Ac) and the temperature ofmelting point of pure
substance (To). The refinement proceeds intwo steps: (i) the determination
of initial values by one of thepreviously developed procedures, and (ii)
the refinement ofinitial values by applying the total differential of Van t
Hoff sfunction with To, Ac and x2 as independent variables.
Keywords: Refinement, differential scanning calorimetry, purity determination, molar ration of impurity, melting curve, temperature of melting point, matematical model

Summary: The rates of replacement of MeOH by imidazoe derivates
in(CoIIIL(MeO)(MeOH))
(L=dimetil-3,7,12,17-tetrametil-8,13-divinil-porfirin-2,18-dipropa noat).
The most basic derivative entersmost slowly, as was previously observed for
pyridine derivatives. The energies and entropies of activation of the
overall reactionwith piridine (py), and imidazole (Him), are Ea/kJ
mol-1=40.0+-3.1 (py) i 76.4+-3.8 (Him), and delta
S+/JK-1mol-1=-105+-10(py), and 13.2+-12.8 (Him). It is inferred that the
transitionstate in the reaction with py is stabilized by sigma and
partialmetal-to-ligand pi bonding, while the reaction with
imidazoleinvolves sigma bonding only.

Summary: Flame atomic absorption spectrometry is successfuly applied
tothe simultaneous determination of copper, manganese and zinc inrat liver.
The proposed method involves only a few steps forsample pre-treatment at
room temperature, making the risk ofsystematic errors very small. The
detection limit was found to be0.04, 0.03 and 0.04 mgL-1 for Cu, Mn and Zn,
respectively.

Summary: A new analytical system for detecting therapeutically
anddiagnostically important edetates is decribed. The method isbased on the
complexing action of edetate anion to remove ferriion from ferrioxamine B
immobilized on Dowex HCR(H+) resin.Decomposition of the coloured chelate
leads to a gradual fadingof the deep brown-violet resin beads. The
identification limitfor anhydrous Na2H2EDTA is 0.9 micrograms in aqueous
medium and1.9 micrograms in original urine. Reliable, rapid and
simplemonitoring of edetate elimination is possible if a matrix test isused
as a reference.

Summary: A mathematical model has been derived for non-isothermal
kineticanalysis from overlapped exotherm and endotherm DTA effectsoccuring
due to simultaneous nucleation and growth precesses.
In the course of the mathematical treatment the refinement of theinitial
values of the kinetic parameters is performed.
The procedure for the determination of kinetic parameters fromDTA has been
demonstrated on a model system and on a kineticanalysis of mullite
formation from diphasic gel.

Summary: Analytical systems that might be practical importance for
the direct determination of Zn(II) ion in whole rat liver homogenates by
flame atomic absorption spectrometry were reliably evaluated based on the
change in calibration sensitivity. For that purpose synthetic samples were
prepared in three extremely different media for tissue
homogenization.Hydrochloric acid medium proved to be more resistant to
matrix components than water or Tris-acetate buffer (pH 8.7). Further, a
highly acidic medium allows the substitution of complex albumin and
salt-containing standard solutions with simple acidic and even aqueous
solutions. The convenience of 1.0 mol/l HCl as the medium for rat liver
homogenisation is emphasized, owing not only to quantitative extraction of
metal ions but also to markedly reduced matrix effects.
