Summary: Croatian forest management is today based on modern

Summary: According to the Law on Nature Protection (N.N.br.
54/76),altogether 746 nature areas in Croatia have been protected ofwhich
322 objects with total area of 447197,17 ha, namely 7,3 %of Croatian
territory. Protected objects of nature are dividedinto 9 categories. There
is a description of all national parksin Croatia (Plitvice Lakes, Paklenica
Canyon, Risnjak, Mljet,Kornati, Brijuni and Krka), there is also a
presentation of allnature parks and a brief description of the Velebit and
Biokovo nature parks.

Summary: By the Forest Law of 1th January 1991 the public
enterpriseCroatian Forests manage Croatian forests covering an area
of1945998 ha while 458342 ha are private forests, 53308 ha managedby other
enterprise. Croatian Forests include stateowned forestsand socially owned
forests. The latter were managed bu foresteywork organizations until the
introduction of the new Law. Priorto World War II these forests were owned
bu the statemunicipalities, communes, land communities, district
realtycommunes, church propeeties, share holding companies, etc.

Summary: The management in the selection forests of Gorski
kotarinfluences the irregularity of the felling volume distributionover the
whole department area. This is particulary the case inmanagement of the
concentrated felling, such as the so-calledcircle cut.By establishing the
gravitation areas, which throughttheir real felling volume and the distance
from the gravitationpoint to the lorry track, considerably influence the
mean haulingdistance, it is possible to obtain the distances of
theindividual strip roads and their distribution in the felling areaby
gradual planning and building of new strip roads.

Summary: While establishing a forest road network of optimal density
withleast total transportation costa, even amd regular distributionof
felling volume over the whole department surface is one of theassumptions.
Since this assumption is rarely fulfilled in thepresent circumstances or

Summary: The Arboretum is located in the northwestern part of the
islandof Veli Brijun, on the Barban Peninsula. Its 7.87 ha-area is aunique
of indigenous Mediterranean and sub-mediterranean islandvegetation with
holm oak, manna ash, strawberry tree, mock privetand tree heath and varioys

Summary: The author presents data on the growth of the Pine tree in
thearea of the Zadar Forest District, Musapstan forest area and theisland
of Rab, Sveta Mara forest region. For the Musapstan areadendrometric data

Summary: The regional planning of forest roads is in the direct
connectionwith the configuration of ground-relief. Calculation of
optimalopening of forests in a classical way results in certainsubjective
errors. Applying the digitalized terrain models andits 3D projections, the

Summary: With the disturbed forest ecosystems on the one hand and
theincreasing need for wood and other forest use on the other, it
isnecessary to investigate the present and insufficiently usedpotentials.
In the research area there are 14,158ha of coppicesboth in state and
private ownerships. Within the organizationclass beech from stump, a survey
was made with descriptions onsystematically laid network of square plots.
According to theobtained research results and the specific problems of
state andprivate forests, management treatments are suggested in order
totransfer these stump forests into higher silvicultural forms.
