Summary: The effects of irrigation on yield compounds of millet, maize anddwarf French bean sowed in sommer 1992 was investigated atagroecological conditions of Podravina region. The resultsobtained in the trail showed that the irrigation favourablyinfluence on vegetative, as well as generative phase of cropdevelopment. The millet irrigated with 10 and 18 mm of waterachieved 3.1 and 5.4 times greater by irrigaton depended on wateramount, relief places and hybrides. The dwarf French bean yieldswere 4.5 to 7.2 times greater by irrigation depended on reliefplaces.

Summary: On the basis of data obtained at the water-measure station Botovofor 20-year period the regime of the river Drava was analysed.Upon the analysis of low and large waterflow, their trend ofsubsidence was ascertained. Subsidence of the waters is theresult of anthropogenic interventions in the river-basin. Usingthe method of cross-correlation analysis, the way and the levelofcommunication between ground waters in Prekodravlje and waters ofthe river Drava was ascertained. The opened profiles with theinstalled piezometers showed the change of ground water regime. The signs of gleization are the result of processes occurred inprevious hydrologicall conditions, so that in recent conditionsthey are of limited diagnostic significance.

Summary: Irrigation is not much practised in Croatia for the followingmain reasons: costly equipment, considerable cots of systemconstruction and inadequate understanding of irrigation benefits. Namely, it is still taken that irrigaton is a means of droughtprevention and since, on average, droughts occur every 3-4 years, psychological and calculational reasons are always found forpostponing investment into irrigation. This situation stillcontinues. Besides, our crop production is still characterized bya narrow range of crops grown, considerable use of chemicals andheavy machinery, discarding of farmyard manure and separation ofcrop and animal production. Irrigation could not be fitted intosuch technology. These facts have been long known in thedeveloped countries where the modern technology of"agriculturewith irrigation " is being applied. We recommend this approachfor this country as well.

Summary: Developement of agricultural land is one of the limiting factorsof improvement of productivity in the major part of the territoryof Croatia. On undeveloped land, the water regime presents thebasic constraint. Likewise, on the major part of arable land thepotentials for increased agricultural production are found inimprovement of the water regime. The paper shows the presentsituation and analyses the problems related to land developementmeasures, with suggested solutions for the purpose of furtheragricultural developement of Croatia.

Summary: On experimental fields Oborovo-Rugvica and Ježevo, theconsequences of absence of required additional measures andinadequate maintenance are investigated. On alluvial and hypogleysoils after installation of drains vertical deep subsoiling hasnot been applied, and on amfigley soils the hydraulic filtermaterijal and the additional agrotehnic measure - moling - havenot been applied. In the drain trench, above the drain a "vault"has been formed at the depth between 30 and 65 cm, and the soilpermeability in the drain trench is low. The paper gives therecommendations for further approach to regulation of excesswater in hydromorphic soils.

Summary: On the Experimental field Oborovo in the Sava river valley theresearch and inspection of the status of the existing drainagesystem (pipe drains) was carried out in the period from May 15,1991 to december 15, 1992. The research was carried out on thebasis of constant monitoring of the surface and ground waterregime, soil moisture dynamics and drain outflow. Duringobservation, a very short period was noticed during which thepipe drainage was functioning with a very low intensity on asmall number of observed drains. The lack of more frequent activeperformance of pipe drains during the observation period ispartly the consecvence of the specific hydrological situation, and partly of inadequate performance of the existing drainagesystem.
Keywords: Inspection, pipe drains, experimental field, drainage discharge, actual moisture fluctuation, ground water level fluctuation.

Summary: The Experimental field Oborovo in Posavina is organized toresearch optimal crop rotation systems and some aspects ofagricultural technology. Concerning land resources, experiment isdone on drained vertic amfigley, no agromeliorated. The plowlayer is silty clay loam. Subsoil is a silty clay and and siltloam. Researched drained veric amfigley is of high plasticity, neutral soil reaction and rather low content of available P2O5and K2O. The groundwater level during a summer period is mostly below onemeter depth, thus upward flow rate and contribution ofgroundwater to root zone are neglected or none. During a hot anddray period (may - september) in the root zone very oftenprevail low content of available soil water (less then 50%).

Summary: The most frequent type of enviroment pollution in agriculturalareas is that by nitrogen. Nitrogen is prone to washing out, dueto weak connection to the colloidal soil particles, and inparticular the nitrate form pollutes ground water andwatersources. The intention of the two year trial was todetermine the influence of detailed tile drainage on nitrogenconcentration in water evacuated from soil in productin areas. Onthe basis of the results it may be stated that nitrogenconcentration in drain water is not dependant on the combinationof detailed drainage measures, and that the values obtained, onaverage, are around internationally accepted values for clearwater.
Keywords: Nitrogen concentration (nitrate and ammonia form), washing out, detailed drainage, drain water, mineral fertilizing, maise, oats.

Summary: The objective of this laborotory-type study was to demonstrate the influence of contet and mineralogical properties of clay fraction on potassium and ammonium adsorpption/desorption processes in solute-soil system.Samples of three soils were selected with regard to different textural andmineralogical characteristics. The investigation of solution-exchange phase equilibra in soils and cation exchange was base of Gapon selectivity equation. The fast supplement of interlaver in smectites was resulted in low vale of AR Ko in vertisol. The same parametar in fluvisol suggest to significant retainability of added potassium in soil solution As compared with those results, vertic and pseudogley soils indicate higher values for ARoNH4, as effect of higher intial ammonium status in solution. Alluvial soil demonstrate similar AR values for each of two cations in equlibrium.Pseudogley soil, along with quarz the dominant clay mineral and considerable mica, shows increased potassium exchange selectivity as compared with vertisol.

Summary: Irrigation in Croatia slightly applied. Nevertheless, the necessities for the irrigation are obvious, especially on islands. Due to insufficiency of precipitations in summer, there is the lack of 200 to 400 mm of water, which is dependant on location and growing crop. There is the shortage of water suitable quality for irrigation. Therefore, it is recommanded the building of water acumulation, covered with plasic sheet. In islands conditions, there is adventage of application of localized irrigation(drop irrigation, microsprinclers). In contemporaly irrigated agriculture it is important to be skilled in water dosage, carried out on a ecological principles.

Summary: During the two - year investigation works conducted in 1991 and 1992 at the Jelenščak Reclamation Test Field, Kutina, the concentrations of NO3-N and NH4-N were monitored in drainage waters of different pipe drainage systems, with pipe distances of 15m, 20 m, 25 m and 30 m, with the hydraulic filter material - gravel - or without it. The investigations were performed in pseudogley and gley soils. In 1992, the corn was cultivated, fertilized the total of 202 kg/ha of nitrogen, and in 1992 the oat was cultivated and fertilized with the total of 50 kg/ha of nitrogen. The drainage water samples were analyzed for each year and all pipe drainage system alternative four times. The results have proven that the average concentration of NO3_N in 1991 ranged from the average minimum value of 13.0 mg/l to the average maximum concentration of 16.3 mg/l. In 1992, the average concentration of NO3-N ranged from the average minimum value of 11,0 mg/l to the average maximum value of 13.1 mg/l. The average concentration of NH4-N in 1991 ranged from the average minimum value of 1.12 mg/l to the average maximum of 1.54 mg/l. In 1992, the determined average minimum value was 0.53 mg/l to the average maximum concentration of 0.70 mg/l. The results were statistically analyzed and it was determined that there were no significant differences between the alternative tests with respect to the concentrations of the mineral forms of nitorgen (NO3-N and NH4-N) washed out from the soil.

Summary: The research conducted at the Vransko jezero lake (Biograd) for several years was intended to contribute to defining of the Vransko jezero water regime, and to present the collected data on salt concentration and origin so that they can be used when the solutions for utilization of this water are looked for. The research results have proven that the water level in the lake depends on the rainfall regime, and that it can fall even below the zero level. In some rresearch periods the sea level was higher than the lake water level which, due to the differential hydrostatic pressure and specific hydrogeological condicitions, resulted in ingress of the sea water into the lake. However, the water levels are not monitored, as was statistically confirmed. The salt concentration in the lake fluctuated even to five times, and its maximum value was reached in the second half of 1990, when the lake water level was the lowest. The salt concentration is in direct relation with the lake water level, which has been statistically proven. The salt concentrations in the Main Canal are considerably lower than in the Vransko Jezero lake, and they are both related to the rainfall regime.

Summary: Imotsko polje (ca 4500 ha) has the highest potential for agricultural production in the broader area of Makarska. Seven basic pedosystemic units were determined in the fild area by hydropedological investigation carried out in 1990. On the basis of detailed analyses of soil properties, as well as climatic, hydrological and geomorfological conditions, limiting factors were defined for a practicable plant production. Some major constrains are excessive soil moisture in the autumn - winter period, water deficit during summer months, a shallow ploughlayer poor in nutrients as well as a steep terrain slope in some places. Regarding the constraints, ameliorative solutions are proposed, with relevant standards for particular measures. The ultimate ovjective is improvement of edaphic conditions to enable a stable and more successful plant production in Imotsko polje based on acceptable ecological principles.

Summary: In the agroecological conditions of Podravina, in summer 1992 and 1993, the investigations were carried out regarding the effects of irrigation on the components of yields of millet, maize and dwarf French bean as secondary crops. The results obtained show that irrigation affected favourably both the vegetative and the generative stage of crop development. Due to irrigation, the yield of millet was 5.4 times higher in 1992 and 1.6 times higher in 1993 than the yields in nonirrigated areas. With irrigation, the yield of French bean was 4.5 times higher in 1992 and 2.4 times higher in 1993. All this speaks in favour of introducing of secondary crops in order to achieve better land utilization, and additional irrigation makes this production secure, which leads to more rational use of the entire agroecological potential in the region of Podravina (Drava river valley).

Summary: In the area of Prekodravlje (Croatia), studies of the ground water dynamics in humofluvisol were carried out during the four-year period. The results obtained indicate the existence of communication between water level readings in individual piezometers. The defined ground water dynamics does not correspond to the morphological signs of hydromorphism of humofluvisol, from which it may be concluded that the ground water regime has changed. With respect to the determined depth of ground water, heterogenous profile stratigrphy, depth to the geological-lithological substratum in the humofluvisol area, and to the height of capillary rising, it should be pointed out that this does not have any influence on reacharging of the agrological profile. The changes in the ground water regime in Prekodravlje excludes its contribution to the water balance which may, from the agronomic point of view, results in droughts.

Summary: Well developed arable areas are the basic prerequirement of successful crop production. Relative to the needs, there is little properly developed land in this country. Therefore, the fast growing agricultural production calls for urgent and detailed land amelioration mesures, the ultimate aim which are high and quality yields. Since there is considerable diversity in the geographical position, climatic characteristics, relief and pedological conditions in Croatia, there is need for both drainage and irrigation. Hydromorphic soils (hipogley, amfigley and pseudogley, as well as certain alluvial-semigley soils) require regulation of surplus water, whereas automorphic soils have to be irrigated. Open trenches have been built on 33.5% of areas under amelioration, they need to by supplemented on 29%, while on 37.5% there are none at all and have to be built. Only 19.6% of arable land has been provided with underground drainage ( pipe drainage), while drain pipes have still to be laid on as many as 660.820 ha. In Croatia irrigations is applied to only 0,29% of arable land. There are, however, number of reasons for irrigation:climatic features, permanent growth of populationand reduction of arable land. Croatia has 680.000 ha that have favourable hydropedological, topographic and hydrographic conditions for irrigation. Private holdings are small here (averige size 2.9 ha, average plot 0.3 ha), so they should be enlarged by carrying out land consolidation also on the remaining 79% of arable land. The development of agriculture in Croatia requires more drainage for surplus water regulation, irrigation to make up for water deficiency and measures for improvement of agricultural areas and particular plots.

Summary: Crop water requirements are an important in designing of irrigation system. There are several methods and approaches to determining of crop water requirements and irrigation requirements. In this paper, the computer programe"Cropwat" has been used. The objective of the paper is to define water shortages, on the exemple of maize, which be coverd by irrigation in the average climatic conditions on the territory of the Republic of Croatia which is a prerequisite to attaining of full production potencial of this crop. On the basis of the ten years mean climatic values such as the monthly air temperature, relative air humidity, sunshine duration and wind speed, the average annual reference evapotranspiration has been determined according to the Penman method. The ETo values range from 872 mm in Gospić i to 1730 mm in Dubrovnik. Keeping in mind the development stage of maize, the crop evapotranspiration has been figured out, as well as the average rainfall regime and the water deficit on 27 locations in Croatia. Irrigation requirements in the vegetation period are the lowest in Karlovac (145 mm) and the highest in Hvar (591 mm). Based on the results, and respecting the natural geographic features, by the interpolation method maps have been worked out showing the average reference evapotranspiration and water shortage in maize farming.

Summary: The trial was set up on the experimental plot "Jelenščak", Kutina located in the Lonjsko polje region, and involved investigation of the influence of different pipe draing spacings, combined with supplementary agromeliorative measures, on the water regime regulation in hydromeliorated pseudogley-gley soil production. Four different spacings between drain pipes (15, 20, 25 and 30 m), each with built-in hydraulic filter material (gravel and without it (backfiling) with vertical deep loosening + liming and without these measures, manifested good efficiency with regard to regulation of surface and subsurface stagnating water at the cropping depth. A saticfactory average drainage discharge, amounting to 215.5 mm or 25.7% of total precipitation, was recorded for all drain pipe spacings. The length og the average drainage discharge period was 105 days; it was shortest (85 days) in the case of the 15 m spacing with built-in filter material and subsoiling and the longest(133 days) in the case of the 30, spacing without filter material and without subsoiling. The mean drainage discharge intensity was 2.1 mm/day for all spacings. There soil moisture phases (at a depth of 0-30 cm) were recorded at all spacings; the ecologically favourable wet phase was the longest (very long) for all spacings while the ecologically adverse dry was the shortest (long). Yields of spring oats (Flemings regent variety) were monitored in the trial. The highest yield of 44.6 dt/ha was determined at the drain pipe spacing of 15 m and the lowest, 35.2 dt/ha, at the drain pipe spacing of 30 m with no filter material and no subsoiling. A statistically significant difference in yields was obtained by statistical data processing (the split-split-plot method). The drain pipe spacing of 15 m, with built-in filter material and vertical deep loosening was significantly the best.

Summary: The principal task of hydrotechnical land amelioration is carrying out of measures and works in order to establish and maintain water and air regime in soil, in accordance with the requirements of modern farming and optimum development of crops. Out of the total of 1,789.000 hectares of amelioration area, hydromelioration systems of surface drainage have been completed on 33,5% and partly on further 29,0%, while subsoil drainage systems have been installed on 19,6 % of the total requirements. The areas sown in 1990 were on 73,3% of amelioration area in Croatia. A particular problem occurs on 296.510 hectares of hydromeliorated areas which are temporally occupied by enemy Serbian paramilitary troups, due to high damages on hydromelioration works and facilities. Without the required degree of completion of hydromelioration facilities and systems, and without proper maintenance, there is no possibility to apply modern agricultural technology in the process of production of agricultural crops, which is the basic pre-condition for development of Croatian water management.

Summary: Most drainage systems in the narrow basin of the Sava River Valley (ca 33,000 ha) area set up on vertic amphigley soils. Due to the specific hydropedology and amelioration problems of this soil type, part of the drainage systems involves combined detailed drainage (pipe drainage with built-in contact material with or without application of agromeliorative measures -soil moling). On a considerable part of the mentioned areas, however, the traditional pipe drainage system was implemented (pipe drainage without contact filter and without moling). Investigations carried out on a number of typical locations in the Sava Valley (Oborovo, Ivanić Grad, Nova Gradiška and Slavonski Brod) were aimed at determining the extent of the functionality of the pipe drainage installed on vertic amphigley in this region. Thus, a long wet phase (more than 100 days) during the year was recorded in the rhizosphere layer on all locations. During the prevalence of specific hydrological conditions (wet soil phase), a low intensity od drainage discharge (0.1 - 0.3 l/s/ha) was recorded on all locations. Deterioration of major physical soil properties in the drain trench zone, especially in the subsoil horizon at a depth of 30-60 cm, was also determined for all locations. For instance, the following was recorded in the drain trench zone relative to the natural soil on the sides: reduction of total soil porosity (up to 5 vol.%) air capacity (3 -5 %), vertical hydraulic conductivity (amounting to 10 cm/day on all locations), penetration resistance (compaction). Marked variation was observed in the yields of crops grown, as well as highly inadequate (poor) maintenance of the existing drainage systems. On the basis of the investigations carried out, we have arrived at the conclusion that the functioning of pipe drainage on the locations at Oborovo (traditional pipe drainage system) and at Nova Gradiška (pipe drainage with contact filter and without moling) can be described as inadequante (poor), and as highly inadequante (very poor) on the Ivanić Grad and Slavonski Brod locations (traditional pipe drainage system). Consequently, the research results point to the general conclusion that the majority of the drainage systems on vertic amphigley in the Sava Valley are of poor to very poor efficiency.

Summary: Efficiency of shallow drainage within the combined detailed drainage system set up on vertic amphigley was investigated on the experimental drainage field at Lug in the period of 1991/92. Shallow drainage was done at an average depth of 65 cm, at a spacing of 20 m, with contact material (natural gravel) backfilling above the drain trench up to the plough layer (about 25 cm from soil surface). No supplementary agrotehnical measure of moling was applied. The investigations were of stationary type and were focused on the monitoring and determination of water regime and actual soil moisture dynamics, drainage discharge intensity (drainage hydromodule) and the yields of crops grown. It was determined during the two year trial that the major influence on the soil moistening regime, that is on the level of subsurface stagnant water and groundwater, was that of precipitation and potential evapotranspiration. In 1991, for instance, the subsurface stagnant water level stayed below 50 cm from soil surface for 10 months, while its shallower level was recorded only during January and May. No longer presence og groundwater in the traditional sence of the word, was recorded in the upper solum within 100 cm of soil depth. Based on permanent measurement of the actual soil moisture, it was established that the soil moisture in the rhizospere laywe (0-60 cm) was in 14,5% of the measured cases higher than the soil water holding capacity and in 85,5% of the cases within the range of optimal soil moisture. The highest degree of linear relation between soil moisture of r=0.864 was obtained within the first and second soil layers (0-30 cm and 30-60 cm deep, respectively). In 1991, a drainage discharge coefficient of 0,233 was determined, which indicates that 23,3% of total annual precipitation was drained by the existing drainage system. Maximum drainage discharge rates of 5.5 l/s/ha, or 47.6 mm, were recorded. During a period of five days (November 21-26, 1991), 80 mm, or 75%, of the total precipitation that fell (105 mm) was drained by the system. The regression equation obtained: y = 10.781 +0.6461 of precipitation allows the conclusion that each additional mm of precipitation in the wet soil phase will lead to an increase of drainage discharge by 0.65 mm. In the period of 1991/92, the achieved yield of oil rape, var. Jet Neuf, amounted to 3.4 t/ha. The obtained investigation results point to the conclusion that the shallow drainage variant within the combined detailed drainage system on the Lug location is marked by good efficiency and is, therefore, recommended as an efficient solution for the draining of vertic amphigley in this country.
Keywords: Shallow drainage, vertic amphigley, water regime, soil moisture, hydromodule (intensity), wet soil phase good efficiency.

Summary: The aim of the three-year field trial (1992, 1993 and 1994), carried out at the farme "Podravsko gospodarstvo"-Koprivnica, was to determine the effect of irrigation on the yield of maize grown as secondary crop. The trial involved four crops (millet, maize, string bean and soybean) grown in the conditions with and without irrigation. The results achieved point to the favourable influence of irrigation both on the vegetative and generative crop development. In the conditions with irrigation, millet yields were up to 5.4 times higher and those of silage maize mass 1.14 to 3.1 times higher, depending on the hybrid and the trial year. String bean rendered 4.5 times higher yields under irrigation. Of the two soybean cultivars tested, RS 4033 achieved a 3.4 higher yield on the irrigated plot, while AURA did not reach pysiological maturity. Considering the obtained yields in terms of climatic conditions of a particular trial year, it is noteworthy than even in the more than averagely humid years the yields were significantly higher in the conditions involving irrigation. Significant yield variations were recorded only on unirrigated plots in the course of all three trial years. The results obtained point to the conclusion that planting of secondary crops does not lead to a better utilization of agricultural areas and ensures better production but supplementary irrigation also enables efficient use of all agroecological potentials in the Drava River Valley.

    Author: ŠIMUNIĆ IVAN
    Date of defense: 12/19/94
    Language: hrvatski
    Number of pages: 133
Summary: In the amelioration trial field "Jelenščak"- Kutina, in the area of Lonjsko Polje (polder No 8), the research was carried was out in order to test various system of detailed drainage, regulating excess water in pseudogley-gley soil, for the purpose of achieving safer and mora profitable agricultural production. It has been proved different drain spacing (15, 20, 25 and 30 m, respectively) with and without filter material (gravel), and with and without deep vertical subsoiling and liming, show good effects regarding regulation of excess subsurface water to the depth of 0.5 m, affecting crop production. On all alternatives of detailed drainage, all three stages of soil humidity have been determined, to the depth of the arable layer (0-30 cm). The ecologically favourable humid stage of soil lasted very long in all alternatives. In 1990, drain discharges were 107.2mm, or 14.2 percent of total rainfall to 116,8 mm( 15.4 percent), in 1992 from 249,8 (27.7 percent) to 278.9 (31 percent). In 1992, the drain discharge ranged from 202,1 mm (24,2 percent) to 239,8 mm (28,6 percent). The duration of drain discharge was, in 1990, 69 to 97 days, in 1991, from 152to 201 days, and in 1992, 85 to 133 days. The mean drain discharge intensity was 1.1 - 1.6 mm/day in 1990, 1.3 - 1.8 mm/day in 1991, and 1,7 - 2,7 mm/day in 1992. The yields monitored included wheat (variety Marija), maize (hybrid c 492) and oat (variety Flemings regent). In 1990, the yield of wheat was from 49.05 dt/ha to 59.54 dt/ha; in 1991, the yield of maize was from 55.66 to 93.36 dt/ha, and in 1992. the yield of oat was 35.24 to 44.56 dt/ha. The variance analysis showed that statistically best alternatives were the drain spacings of 15 and 20 m (in some results, also 25 m) with filter material-gravel and vertical deep subsoiling and liming and these alternatives should be given the priority in regulation of exess water in this area.
Keywords: Detailed drainage systems, pseudogley- gley, filter (contact) material-gravel, vertical deep subsoiling, liming, stagnant surface water, ecologically favourable humid stage in soil, drain discharge quantity, drain discharge duration mean drain discharge intensity crop yield.

    Faculty: Agronomski u Zagrebu
    Date of defense: 01/24/95
    Language: hrvatski
    Number of pages: 87
Summary: The paper presents the results of tests carried out on six locations of the farm"Podravsko Gospodarstvo" with the of determining their efficiency for improvement of crop production by comparing their status before and after the application of agricultural land development measures. Analyses of the conditions prior to the detailed land development revealed an unregulated water -air regime as well as complete unfunctionality of the existing drainage system. Indicators of land development efficiency were analyzed in terms of the trench and path networks, shape and size of production plots as well as the yields of crops grown. The achieved investigation results allow the conclusion that, after the detailed agricultural land development, the length of trenches and paths was decreased while the arable areas increased. The number of production plots was reduced and the average plot size increased. All of this resulted in a considerable rise of wheat and maize yields.
Keywords: Agricultural area, crop production, water-air regime of the soil, indicators of development efficiency, trench and path network shape and size of production plots, yield.

    Language: hrvatski
    Number of pages: 141
Summary: Hydropedological problems of the Virovitica region (over 10,000 ha) were addressed with the emphasis on the occurrence of surplus waters and the possibilities of their solution trough adequate detailed drainage systems. Based on the hydropedological investigations conducted for the needs of detailed drainage, the pedosystemic units determined were divided into four amelioration zones of similar moistening problems and similar physical and chemical properties, each with an adequate system of detailed drainage. The third amelioration zone covers 38% of the areas under study with predominantly marshy gley hypogley soils and, to a much smaller extent, marshy gley amphigley soils (ratio 19:1). The fourth amelioration zone comprises peat soils, which account for 4% of the areas under study.
Keywords: Detailed drainage systems; alluvial, semigley, marshy gley hypogley and amphigley soils, peat soils, surplus water; systematic pipedrainage; deep loosening; mechanical filter; combined pipe drainage; mole drainage; hydraulic filter; open trench network.

Title: DETERMINATION OF BIOCLIMATIC COEFICIENTS FOR TOMATO
    Faculty: Agronomski u Zagrebu
    Author: KLAČIĆ ŽELJKO
    Date of defense: 07/18/95
    Language: hrvatski
    Number of pages: 81
Summary: The trial was carried out on the experimental areas of the Faculty of Agriculture Zagreb during the growing seasons of 1993 and 1994. The research goal was to determine the decade values of bioclimatic coefficients for tomato (var. Monte Carlo) grown in a sheltered space (High tunnel) and in the open. Crop irrigation was conducted by the dripping method. Water consumption for evapotranspiration was determined by the method of water balancing on trail plots, in the soil layer of 0-30 cm, in which tomato roots are developed. Values of bioclimatic coefficients, determined on the basis of air temperature, relative air humidity and the deficit of air saturation with water vapour for each decade in each growing season were compared with the average decade bioclimatic coefficients. No significant differences between the daily water consumption calculated on the basic of the relevant (seasonal) bioclimatic coefficients and water consumption calculated by means of the average bioclimatic coefficients were determined for either of the trial variants by using of the three methods of bioclimatic coefficient calculation. Accordingly, the average values of bioclimatic coefficients can be used to calculate the daily water requirements of tomato.
    Keywords: Tomato, evapotranspiration, bioclimatic coefficients.
