Summary: A comparison is made between formulations contained in
theHamburg and Hague-Visby Rules (the Convention relating to Billsof Lading
- 1924, with amendments of 1968). The most importantchanges in the Hamburg
Rules in relation to the Hague-Visby Rulesconcern the application and
system of liability. The authorconsiders that the Republic of Croatia
should ratify the VisbyRules as soon as possible, but should, however, wait
a littlebefore ratifying the Hamburg Rules.

Summary: This paper deals with accidents of the sea generally
termed"prils of the sea" and considered to be among the mostcontroversial
cases within the framework of the institute of"excepted perils". In
conclusion, the author points out thataccidents of the sea, since they are
peculiar to the sea and itselemental violence and therefore inherent in
maritime navigation,can be accepted as exceptions if they represent
extraordinary andinsurmountable perils of the sea endangering vessels and
theircargoes.

Summary: The International Convention on Bill of Lading of 1924
(TheHague Rules) does not apply to the cargo which has been mentionedin the
transportation contract as loaded on the deck and beingfactually
transported in that way. The solutions of theConvention on transportation
of Goods by Sea of 1978 (The HamburgRules) have been also presented, and in
conclusion plead was madeto regulate a deck transportation internationally,
includingcontainers, and taking into account the provisions of the
ParisDeclaration on Uniformity of the Law of Carriage of 1990 inrelation to

Summary: The paper is an analysis of the legal effects of an "Act of
Public Enemies", one of the "excepted perils" cited in the Hague Rules. A
comparison is made between the solutions contained in the comparative
legislations regarding the acceptance of this term from the Hague Rules,

Summary: The paper deals with legal effects of fire as a marine
adventure in carriage of goods by sea. A comparison is made between
solutions of the Croatian Maritime Code, comparing legislative and
judicature with international conventions (the Hague and Hamburg Rules). In
conclusion, the author points out that our legislator regulates the
mentioned subject in conformity with the Hague Rules. The shipowner's
responsibility is based on the shipowner's proved negligence only for
actual fault or privity.

Summary: This paper deals with accidents of the sea, generally
termed "perils of the sea" and considered to be among the most
controversial cases within the framework of the institute of "excepted
perils". In conclusion, the author points out that accidents of the sea
can be accepted as exceptions if they represent extraordinary and
insurmountable perils of the sea endangering vessels and their cargoes.

Summary: The paper deals with legal effects of provisional measures
in security procedure on the ship in the new Croatian Maritime Code. The
author analyses security proceedings in general, treats the provisional
measures separately, points out all types of provisional measures and the
kinds of claims that become subject to provisional measures. The author
also describes court jurisdiction. The paper specially touches on the
problem of arrest of a ship. In conclusion, the author points out that the
new law in relation to the derogated Maritime and Inland Navigation Law of
the Republic of Croatia, uses clearer and more precise formulations.
