    Summary: The paper deals with legal effects of fire as a marine adventure in carriage of goods by sea. A comparison is made between solutions of the Croatian Maritime Code, comparing legislative and judicature with international conventions (the Hague and Hamburg Rules). In conclusion, the author points out that our legislator regulates the mentioned subject in conformity with the Hague Rules. The shipowner's responsibility is based on the shipowner's proved negligence only for actual fault or privity.
