   Summary: This paper was made as an attempt to point out some problems related to absences from school, by summing up statements from students, their perents and class-masters. The research was conducted in 16 elementary school classes (423 students) and in 16 secondary school classes (388 students), in the area of Split. The research also included 120 parents of high school students, and 120 parents of elementary school students, together with 70 elementary school and 66 secondary school teachers. Results showed that in both types of schools, school-masters, students and parents do not see the problem of absences in the same way. Parents of secondary school students are more often willing to help their children with unexcused absences, than the parents of elementary school students.Fear as the reason for absences is more emphasised in secondary school than in elementary school. It is the opinion of the class-masters that absences have a significantly negative influence on students' school performance, while their parents usually try to deminish that influence. Students, especially secondary school attendants, state that absences from school even have s positive impact on their school performance.

   Summary: On the basis on inspection into class documentacion, pupils' excused and unexcused absences in 24 classes of primary school and 24 classes of secondary school hane been elaborated. The rasults show that commonest reson for excused absences in primary and secondary school as well is "sickness"; the reason for unexcused absence in primary school is "didn't come", while the reasons in secondary school were not registered. The class-masters differ significantly in their evidence of the reasons for absence (excused as well as unexcused)
