Summary: This article analyses the notion of a region as understood
in theperspective of a functional development theory. A region istherefore
defined as a functional economic whole. Using theexample of economic
development of Istria, the disfunctionalityof past development strategy is
shown. By elaborating the actualdeveloping problems in Istria, it is argued

Summary: "Bukaleta" is a big glass (receptacle) for communal
drinking ofwine (from ital. bocale). Usually, it was made of faiance.
Theguests were awaited with "bukaleta" and when a peace of toastedbread was
dipped into the red wine, in "bukaleta", it was a real"fiesta" for both
hosts and guests. Popular hospitality can helpto enrich a touristic offer
in central Istria, where a tasting ofwine, from bukaleta, could be very
attractive.

Summary: Dvigrad (Due Castelli) is an antique and medieval castle
whichwas deserted in the middle of 18th century. Today it is a ruine.The
basilica of St. Sofia from 6th century has been bettermaintained for a
longer period, but even that one has been leftonly with walls today.
Nevertheless Dvigrad is still anattractive sight which deserves visit since
it still shows a"town" shape, fortifications, three town entrances and
communalwater supply cistern.

Summary: The project "The countryside park of Istra" is based on the
assumption that development strategy of central Istrian territory must be
coordinated with preservation strategy. The aim of this strategy is: a)
improvement of quality of life of the local population, b) preservation of
the extraordinary natural and cultural heritage of area, c) development of
organic-biological agriculture as well as "soft" and rural tourism. The
project therefore define economic priorities of central Istrian region in
the context of the optimalization of actual economic structure, while the
elaboration of the park institution is backed up by the interpretation of
the park region.
