    Summary: The inhabitants of Pelješac were stable, even static, judging bytheir dominant characteristics. There is quite a number ofnatives among them, even today. The present inhabitants can bedivided into five strata: the oldest stratum consists of theindigenous people who had already been there in 1333 (they are tobe found among the families that have no recorded tradition abouttheir origins); the second stratum consists of those whoimmigrated to Pelješac at the time of the fall ofBosna-Hercegovina; the third, sparse stratum is made up ofimmigrants who had been settling there until the fall of theDubrovnik Republic; the fourth, considerably more numerous, isrepresented by those who had moved in at the time of theAustro-Hungarian rule; whilst the fifth and the youngest stratumconsists of new immigrants from various parts, who settled inPelješac after 1918.

    Summary: The book includes 94 graphs showing the duration of families indifferent places on the peninsula. The continuity of familiesfrom one registration year to another was established through athorough genealogical treatment of the whole peninsula ofPelješac, as well as through a terrain check of the arrangementof houses. This enabled us to get a synthetized survey of theduration of families in a specific place, of the development ofthe houses founded on divisions and of the spreading of settlements, as well as of all the changes of owners that tookplace in certain places owing to migrations.

    Summary: Ivan August Kaznačić appeared in Croatian literary history in themost turbulent decade of the 19th century 1840-1850. UnderstaningKaznačić's position in the Croatian literary and culturalhistory and his role in the Croatian national revival formerlypresumed observation of this whole literary and cultural workwithin historical premises of the middle of the 19th century. Hiscreative work had to be analysed in its totality including hispublicistic, literary historical, critical, editorial, archival,bibliographical, antiquarian and poetical work. His creativecollaboration with P. Preradović, I. Kukuljević and othersqualitatively contributed to the cultural connexion of Dubrovnikand Zagreb.

    Summary: The first chapter deals with first names of the Pelješac peninsula inhabitants from the 13th to the 20th centuries. The longest part of the book contains a lexicographical survey of the history of particular Pelješac family lineages names. Along with the basic genealogically essential data (the origin, the family tradition, the time of immigration, the first mention in the archives, migration, emigration, extinction, changes of family names and nicknames) the author quotes different legal cases, testaments and data from other sources deemed interesting from the point of view of language, customs, environment, life-style, outstanting people, and so on.

    Summary: Antun Drobac was born in Dubrovnik on April 13, 1810, spent hislife-time in it and died there, too (March 8 1822). Drobac waspharmacist by profession but engaged in numerous publicactivities: he was a merchant, shipowner, public servant,politician, board museum lover and collector. Dubrovnik ows himgreatly for his services in public health, economy and culture.He was an honourable citizent of the town and continued to be soto the present day. The city authorities engaged Ivan Rendić, thefamous sculptor to model Drobac's bust. A street in Dubrovnik wasalso named after him.

    Summary: This is a jocular-satirical kind of poetry that appeared on theDubrovnik cultural scene on the turn of the 18th/19th centuries,mostly as the poetics of idleness and diversion, in its bare andsterile one-sidedness. Still, with all incapacity of the lastliterary representatives of the old Dubrovnik to reach theheights of genuine art, some poetic achievements managed tobreak through the level of a wanton joke, a pale caricature andan unsure parody, by speaking spontaneously, graciously andvividly, with witty remarks, which reflected the life ofDubrovnik of that time.

By analyzing the lists from the 1577-1642 period -the lists not containing any family names, but only patronymicmarkers - and by comparing changes in the first names from onelist to another, as well as the house owners distribution withinthe village or within the block of bondmen's houses, the housesand families of the village of Čepikuće were identified and theircontinuity with the 1673/4 list was determined.

The family influence on Ruđer Bošković stretches from Herzegovinian villages to Italian towns, with the common focal point in the city of Dubrovnik. Perhaps it was the healthy peasant vitality and resourcefulness of Herzegovina, imbued with the stimulating Dubrovnik atmosphere and the Italian cultural influence, perhaps that clash of cultures, ways of life and thinking, that "gave birth" to a really outstanding family of scientists and artists.     Summary: The shipping in Dubrovnik and its ship-builders, who had built vessels of many types and capable of various voyages, were widely known for centuries. During the Dubrovnik Republic Gruž was the centre of shipbuilding industry and continued to be so long after its fall. The Dubrovnik nava "Dvanaesti Dubrovački" (with 1246 deadweight tons, overall lenght 59, 30 m, beam 10, 58 m and draught 6, 28 m) constructed in Gruž in 1875 was the biggest ship the Gruž shipyard ever built.

    Summary: Author brings interesting informations about the money mint in the Republic of Dubrovnik in which minting technology was well known in 13th century. The money mint was situated in the palace Sponza since 1520 when this Dubrovnik's public building was built. The informations about the money mint employees in the 18th century are pointed out.

    Summary: The new French administration in Dubrovnik was conceived by general Marmont and the Dubrovnik administrator I. L. Garagnin from Trogir. It financed itself solely from the remaining Ragusan government funds. Thus the Dubrovnik territory was formaly recognized as part of Italian Kingdom, but in practise Garagnin was subordinated to the French military authorities due to existing hostilities.

    Summary: Although the family of Nikola Bošković had no heir, their greatwork remained, the result of their natural gifts, diligence andthe skill of all of the family members, but most of all of RuđerBošković, the wisest and most famous of them all. The familyinfluence on Ruđer Bošković stretches from Hercegovinianvillages to Italian towns, with the common focal point in thecity of Dubrovnik. Perhaps it was the healthy peasant vitalityand resourcefulness of Herzegovina, imbued with the stimulatingDubrovnik atmosphere and the Italian cultural influence, perhapsthat clash of cultures, ways of life and thinking, that "gavebirth" to a really outstanding family of scientists and artists.And from that "fertile field" grew Ruđer Bošković, a great man ofhis own time, but of ours as well.

    Summary: Ivan August Kaznačić appeared in Croatian literary history in themost turbulent decade of the 19th century 1840-1850. UnderstaningKaznačić's position in the Croatian literary and cultural historyand his role in the Croatian national revival formerly presumedobservation of his whole literary and cultural work withinhistorical premises of the middle of the 19th century. Hiscreative work had to be analysed in its totality including hispublicistic, literary historical, critical, editorial, archival,bibliographical, antiquarian and poetical work. His creativecollaboration with P. Preradović, I. Kukuljević and othersqualitatively contributed to the cultural connexion of Dubrovnikand Zagreb.

    Summary: The inhabitants of Pelješac were stable, even static, judging bytheir dominant characteristics. There is quite a number ofnatives among them, even today. The present inhabitants can bedivided into five strata: the oldest stratum consists of theindigenous people who had already been there in 1333 (they are tobe found among the families that have no recorded tradition abouttheir origins); the second stratum consists of those whoimmigrated to Pelješac at the time of the fall ofBosna-Hercegovina; the third, sparse stratum is made up ofimmigrants who had been settling there until the fall of theDubrovnik Republic; the fourth, considerably more numerous, isrepresented by those who had moved in at the time of theAustro-Hungarian rule; whilst the fifth and the youngest stratumconsists of new immigrants from various parts, who settled inPelješac after 1918.

Although the Tripolitan corsairs were occasionalyattacking the Dubrovnik ships, the danger was deduced.
