Title: The Composition of a Lyrical Poem

    Authors:
    UŽAREVIĆ, JOSIP (63952)
Publisher: Zavod za znanost o književnosti
    ISBN: 86-80279-32-3
    Year: 1991
    Number of pages: 243
    Language: hrvatski
Summary: The structure of the concept "lyrical composition" involves three factors: 1. the component parts, 2. the connecting/segmenting factors, 3. the way in which the component parts are unified. With regard to these three factors, the book is devided into, conditionally speaking, a theoretical-abstract and an analytical-concrete part. The phenomenology of the aspects of a lyrical poem pertaining to its composition is analysed in the lyrical work of O. Mandeljštam and Boris Pasternak.

Title: The Baroque and The Avant-Garde

    Authors:
    BENČIĆ-PRIMC, ŽIVA (3126)
Publisher: Zavod za znanost o književnosti
    ISBN: 86-80279-31-5
    Year: 1991
    Number of pages: 200
    Language: hrvatski
Summary: The collection of studies entitled THE BAROQUE AND THA AVANT-GARDE deals with the literature of two mutually distant periods in Russian culture. The first four chapters of the book are devoted to the problem of the Russian Baroque. Since the author understands the Baroque as the category that refers to style rather than to a certain period, the focus of interest was primarily the stylistic dimension of Russian Baroque text. A preocupation with the style of a literary work is also characteristic of the four chapters dealing with the Russian Avant-Garde. The bridge between this two parts of the book is the study entitled THE BAROQUE AND THE AVANT-GARDE which deals with the problem of kinsip between Baroque and Avant-Garde texts. When speaking of the Russian Avant-Garde, the similarities observed on the level of poetics and the structure of texts are not explained by any real contacts with 17th-century literature; rather, they are explained typologically, i.e. by the fact that the Baroque and the Avant-Garde belong to the fact that the Baroque and the Avant-Garde belong to the same type of art, which has most often been designated by the term "Mannerism" since Curtius.
Keywords: style, period, rhetoric, poetics, metaphor, conceit, lyrical subject, literary genre

    Language: hrvatski
Summary: This text analyses the characters of five novels which are paradigmatic for Russian literature of the first third of the twentieth century (Peterburg, Golyj god, Zavist, Cevengur, Master i Margarita). In the background are the "characters", the pivot in the novel of Russian realism, with which the characters of the five novels are in constant relation. The characters in the novels are analysed according to their primary terms of reference - naming and physical appereance (portrait and costume). The character is a sign and has its signifier, and the other elements of characterization are the signified of the character. Various, often incompatible relationships inside the signifier and the signified, as well as between the elements of these two categories point out to the grotesque structure of the character as well as a novel in its entirety.
Keywords: the novel, grotesque, character, the sign, naming/signifier

Summary: An attempt is made to study the semantic structure of the oxymoron on examples taken from the lyrical poetry of O. Mandelstam. The analysis of the meaning of the oxymoron is performed in two stages: first the contradiction arising at the level of the literal meanings of the oxymoron componeents ics investigated, and then an attempt is made to determine the mechanism of neutralization of the original contradiction, i.e. the mechanisms of the shift of the oxymoron into a superordinate sign structure that transcends the semantics of its own elements.

Title: Totalitarianism and Historical Memory (Antonomasia in the Prose of O. Mandelstam)

The author demonstrates that Mandelstam's antonomasia is a subversive trope that topples the image of the world built by the official ideology of Soviet totalitarianism. By disrupting the closed and opaque nature of the totalitarian world view, antonomasia defends Russian culture from the two major threats hanging over it from the mid-twenties: historical oblivion and cultural isolation.

Summary: Paradoxy is one of the ineradicable and natural characteristics of naatural languages. In logic this is a major source of richness. Journal: Filologija
    Volume: 20
    Year: 1992
    Pages: from 479 to 488
    Number of references: 14
    Language: hrvatski
Summary: This analysis of the compositions of SLOVO explores the components, procedures and factors that demonstrate the integrality of this 12th-century masterpiece. The SLOVO consists of an introduction, central part and conclusion. The central part is also analysed in the article. It also consists of three parts: 1. Igorev's campaign, 2.Sviatoslav's dream and his "golden word" (including Yaroslava's lament), 3. Igorev's escape. One of the basic compositional procedures is the principle of foreshadowing. Special attention is paid to the theme of the dream and the role of nature in this respect. Special attention is also paid to the role of lyrical-reflexive "departures" from the main narrative stream.
Keywords: genre, work, teological ring, the poetics of foreshadowing, the lyrical subject, nature, dream

    Title: Writing and direction

    Authors:
    UŽAREVIĆ, JOSIP (63952)
    Journal: Suvremena lingvistika

    Year: 1992
    Pages: from 309 to 330
    Number of references: 26
    Language: hrvatski
Summary: Writing is a system of discrete graphic symbols or signs (drawings or letters) by means of which we can record, keep and convey information (texts) of a certain language on lasting material regardless of how far the addessee is in time or space or institutionally from the addresser. This paper discusses the relationship between writting and drawing and finally, the links between writing, time and direction (orientation). Problems of the logical and historical evolution of writing, as well as the relationship between the alphabet and the text, are also analysed.

Title: Vladimir Vidrić: Landscape I (An Interpretive Polemic)

    Authors:
    UŽAREVIĆ, JOSIP (63952)
    Journal: Zrcalo
    Year: 1991
    Pages: from 133 to 146
    Number of references: 13
    Language: hrvatski
Summary: The example of Vidrić's poem PEJZAŽ I is used to show that there are different and conflicting interpretations of a poem. An attempt is made, however, to prove that there are suitable and erroneous interpretations. Considering the fact that the world of Vidrić's poem is based on visual perception, the interpretation of the poem has to go in the direction of an analysis of spatial organization. Thus it is demonstrated that the poem is not impreessionistically chaotic, but that it is ordered according to the strict principles of linear perspective.
Keywords: interpretation, lyrical subject, perspective, spatial organization, rhythm (metre), polemic

Title: Aristotle's Illusion (A Contribution to the Phenomenology of Perception)

    Authors:
    UŽAREVIĆ, JOSIP (63952)
    Journal: Filozofska istraživanja
    Volume: 3
    Year: 1992
    Pages: from 691 to 706
    Number of references: 11
    Language: hrvatski
Summary: Illusions are a phenomenon of perception. They bear Witness to certain laws governing the relationship of the body (consciousness) and reality. Aristotle's illusion, as a tactile illusion, indicates the fact that we are dealing with a kind of "abuse" or "wrong reading" of the physical setup: the paths leading from the peripheral organs of perception to the brain (and back) may be adjusted so that one ball is felt as two. The re-coding of the outer space into the inner space (i.e. the space of the body) is carried out analogously to the constitution of Mobius's ribbon: all the relations are orientationally shifted by 180 degrees.
Keywords: illusion, perception, the phenomenology of perception, Aristotle's illusion, physical setup, hand, body, reality, brain, Mobius's ribbon, paradoxical object

    Year: 1994
    Pages: from 134 to 151
    Language: hrvatski
Summary: An attempt is made to answer the question whether the literature of the Russian Avant-Garde may be identified with exists for its own purpose, which is autonomous, freed from the interests and norms of everyday life and unambiguosly separated from the sphere of work. The answer to this question can be affirmative only in case of the early Russian Avant-Garde, which was not burdened with the problem of its own social utility and its service to the new order.
Keywords: play, work, artistic autonomy, visual, auditory and semantic ludus

Title: Infantilism in works of Eleny Guro

    Authors:
    BENČIĆ-PRIMC, ŽIVA (3126)
    Journal: Europa Orientalis
    Number: 1
    Year: 1994
    Pages: from 39 to 61
    Language: talijanski
Summary: The paper contains an analysis of infantilistic experiments of Jelena Guro, in which the writer, by imitating speech, cognitive and perceptive abilities of a child, discovers her own artistic solutions. The article, neverthless, deals with those works by Guro which are not infantilistic by themselves, i.e. with the works in which the child is not imitated, but presented from the standpoint of an adult narrator. The most usual type of child in Guro's work is the one that permits us to draw analogies between him and the artist.

Title: Category of Remembering in Osip Mandel'stam

    Authors:
    BENČIĆ-PRIMC, ŽIVA (3126)
    Journal: Umjetnost riječi
    Number: 1
    ISSN: 0503-1583
    Year: 1995
    Pages: from 51 to 67
    Language: hrvatski
Summary: The author first shows that O. Mandelstam abandoned the metaphysical conception of memory, which was still advocated in early 20-th century Russian culture by V. ivanov, P. Florenski and, to some extent, by A. Byeli. According to this conception, memory is ultimately reduced to the "vertical" connection of the human and the ideal. On the contrary, Mandelstam's conception of memory has a "horisontal" character, moving across the level of the historical world, which is ontologically allways the same level, from the modern era to the beginnings of European civilization. In the second part of the article, the author analyses the relationship between Mandelstam's historical memory and his autobiographical memory and determines the ways in which each of these functions as an aesthetic category in the structure of the text.
Keywords: metaphysical conception of memory, historical memory, autobiographical memory

    Language: hrvatski
Summary: The author discusses the relationship between translated literature with national and world literature. A definition of translation is put forward and the relation between the original and the translation is analysed within the framework of other antinomies of the translation (literal translation - free translation, individuality - colectivity, etc.). Special attention is drawn to poetical translation, the relationship between language and versification as well as to the problem of the iamb in Croatian, Russian and English.
Keywords: translated literature, national literature, world literature, equivalence (adequacy), the original, the translation, the text, language, versification, the iamb, culture

    Year: 1994
    Pages: from 84 to 91
    Number of references: 12
    Language: hrvatski
Summary: In the Lord's Prayer two functions are discovered - the function of a prayer (man addresses to the Lord his prayers concerning his spiritual and bodily needs) and the function of a model (Jesus teaches people how to pray). The connections with the Ten Commandments and the differences between the two texts are determined. Syntactic, semantical and theological aspects of the Lord's Prayer are brought to attention, and some difficulties in translation are observed (e.g. the translation of the Greek word epiousion as quotidinianum and supersubstantialem, as well as nad nev ny and nasoštny).

Summary: In the novel Master and Margharita by M. Bulgakov there is an incorporated "novel" about Pontius Pilate. This novel is in fact one of the Gospels, but this one, unlike the canonized ones, has no author. It is simply known to and recognized by various characters of the novel, and the reader too accepts the text as an ancient text of the Gospels - the real Annunciation.
Keywords: Bulgakov, Master and Margharita, the Gospels, the ancient text

    Volume: 20
    Year: 1992
    Pages: from 269 to 279
    Language: hrvatski
Summary: The text speaks of the writer's naming to the central, not numerous character in his novel "Envy". The character's name is seen to be a description of character, while the name/signifier draws its surfeit of meaning from the language it is part of, from Russian and European literary and cultural tradition, as well as from Russian everyday life (byt). In close connection to this are the names of historical persons or literary characters which the novel mentions, dehistoricizes and mythologies and which partake in the function of characterization within this novel.

    Held: from 11/03/89 to 11/05/89
Summary: The paper contains an analysis of two conceptions of the infantile present in the works of Jelena Guro. The earlier conception of the child, widespread in 19th-century European literature sees in the child a symbol of innocence and moral superiority over the adult. The later, "Avant-Garde" conception of the child emphasizes the child's aesthetic innocence, i.e. the fact that the child, due to the lack of his or her integration into culture, is more spontaneous and more imaginative than an adult artist or writer burdened with the aesthetic norms and intellectual patterns imposed by civilization. That is why , in Guro's opus, the infantile functions in two ways: as a paradigm of genuine humanity, but also as a possibility of renewing artistic expression.

Summary: The simmilarities and differences between P. Florenski and O. Mandelstam indicate the similarities and differences between two cultural-historical epocs, i.e. Symbolism and Post-Symbolism (Acmeism), as well as the difference between two spiritual practices - philosophy and philology. Within this framework, the paper deals with how the two writers treat phenomena such as language, the law of identity, rememberance, death, the Middle Ages, the personality, the name, etc.

    Pages: from 189 to 218
Summary: The article shows that antonomasia in the prose of O. Mandelstam cannot be limited to a purely ornamental procedure, to a figurative expression equivalent in meaning to its literal paraphase. The use of this rhetorical figure creates a certain "surplus of meaning" intensifying not only its aesthetic, but also its cognitive effect. The focus is therefore not only on an analysis of the formal and semantic characteristics of antonomasia, but also on its referential range.
Keywords: proper name and its meaning, the cognitive effect of antonomasia, antonomasia as a subversive linguistic device
