Summary: In the area of the Zagreb archdiocese a great many items of devotional art produced by goldsmiths have been preserved from the period extending from the 12th to the 20th century. The doners were bishops, local aristrocracy, and, later on, ordinary citizens. Apart from the bishops, the canons of Čazma and Zagreb chapters also donated devotional articles of the goldsmith's art. The treasury of Zagreb Cathedral includes a number of exampels of notable golden articles dating from the earliest paeriod of its existence, with a particularly impressive collection of chalices from the cathedral treasury of the 15th and 16th century, vessels richly decorated in filigree and enamel such as are rarely found in the churches of mainland Croatia. During that period our goldsmiths conformed to patterns set by the goldsmiths of Central Europe. From the middle of the 17th until the middle of the 18th century a large group of Augsburg craftsmen was active, including Lucas Neusser, Hans Jacob I Baur, Jakov II Plank, Franz Ignaz Stadler, Caspar Riss, and others. The group of Viennese craftsmen was represented by Johan Georg Heydensperger, Joseph Moser, Octavian II Cocksell etc. The group of craftsmen from Graz included Leopold Vogtren, Franz Pfafinger and Antun Jezbare. The goldsmith's craft in Croatia was represented by the Zagreb goldsmiths Ivan Mihalffy Lanner and Ferdinand Eberhard, as well as by the Varaždin craftsmen Antonius Torek, Juraj Belle, Juraj Kunić, Ivan Meichlinger and Michal Podboršić.
