Summary: In order to establish the connection between the certain
judges' characteristics and their singling out and administering
punishment, 56 students were examined. They assisted the trial in a case of
a big robbery and afterwards they individually singled out and administered
a sanction not knowing what the court sentence was. They were also examined
by the psychological instruments. The results point out how important the
subjective factor in administering punishment is.

Summary: A survey on citizens' opinion about the first accused in
"Agrokomerc Affairs" was carried out in three phases: during the
prosecution, at the end of a trial, and after the verdict was reached. The
more time passed, the lesser seemed the load of penalty to the citizens,
which they would otherwise expect from the judge, and also the lesser was
the sentence they would themselves pass upon the defendant. Once the
charges have been pressed against the accused, the citizens think that the
court will be too mild towards him, and when the verdict was reached, they
thought it was a severe punishment. The common correlation between the
punishment administered by the citizens and the one expected from the court
is r=.49.

Summary: An attempt was made to use statistical instead of
individual approach to analyse the attribution process and the role of
cognitive structure in the process. On a sample consisting of 606 subjects
an attribution of guilt for the "Agrokomerc" affair was made. Subjects
attributed greater guilt to the "society" than to the "leading person". A
factor analyses of the "society" guilt has shown that different groups
within society can be grouped into 3 categories according to the guilt
contribution for the affair. These social groups explained about 10% of the
guilt variance. The need for checking the stability over time for the
cognitive structure was stressed.

Summary: In order to establish the connection between the certain
judges' characteristics and their singling out and administering
punishment, 56 students were examined. They assisted the trial in a case of
a big robbery and afterwards they individually singled out and administered
a sanction not knowing what the court sentence was. They were also examined
by the following psychological instruments: EPQ personality questionnaire,
sex orientation scale and M-series for intelligence. It was established
that the more intelligent examinees as well as the males decided
considerably on the imprisonment while the less intelligent examinees and
females decided on probation system. The higher sanction of unconditional
imprisonment was administerd by those examinees who showed lower results on
femininity scale. The examinees deciding on probation system and those less
feminine, pronounced the longer probation term, while the male examinees
considered it better menacing with a longer imprisonment sanction. These
results point out how important the subjective factor in administering
punishment is.

concerning
the Agrocomerc Scandal, show that opinion on guilt, handing out
punishment and the expected judical punishment is closely
connected not only with the quantity, content and source of
information (as well as the estimated level of one's being
informed), but also with some other characteristics of examinees
such as sex, age and the working status.

Summary: The question of public safety is particularly delicate when
it comes to institutionalized treatment, i.e.. to measures which deprive or
substantially restrict one's freedom. If we keep in mind that these are
mentally ill persons who, as a rule, are helpless and incapable of
defending their interests, the question of public safety takes on a new
dimension by raising the question of possible abuse.
