Summary: Investigations of transparent objects like stationary
plasmas onthe basis of holographic interferometry are difficult because
ofthe relatively small fringe shift caused by these phase objects. For
tomographic reconstruction procedures the phase shiftsderived from the
interferograms have to be particularly accurate, otherwise the
reconstruction of the refractive index distributionof the inhomogeneous
plasmas is not reliable. The highly resolvedphase profiles can be obtained
by the use of spatialheterodyning, providing an accuracy of 2pi/20 in
thedetermination of the phase. A test of the optical arangement andthe
computer-tomographic reconstruction algorithms is performed. The method is
applied to diagnostics of different plasmas, suchas high frequency plasmas
and dc-glow-discharges.

Summary: Twelve fresh human pelves with preserved lumbar spines,
hipjoints, and ligaments, were tested by double-exposure
andsandwich-hologram interferometry. During physiologic loadings(50-300 N),
the pelvis moved as a whole downward and backward.Iliac wings exhibited
marked undulation, except for the centralpart, which showed minor
deformations. The sacrum moveddown-ward and rotated forward over an axis
5-9 cm below thepromontorium. The magnitudes of deformations as well as
theirunderlying mineral contents were unequally distributed betweenthe two
pelvic sides. These results indicate that the sacroiliacinterosseous
ligaments are the main determinant of sacralmovement. Asymetric load
transmittance to the hip joints might beresponsible for the mineral content
differences between thepelvic sides.

Summary: A new type of matched spatial filter referred to as the
quasiphase-only filter (QPOF) has been recently introduced as anoptical
solution for the phase-only filtering concept. Thehigh-efficiency attribute
has been found to link the QPOFs andphase-only filters (POFs). Using
computer simulation experiments, the properties of QPOFs are discussed in
terms of asignal-to-noise ratio, a peak-to-sidelobe ratio, ability
todiscriminate, and also the general behaviour of the outputcorrelation
signals.

Summary: Quasi phase-only filters (QPOFs) are able to give similar
resultsas classical matched filters (CMFs) or phase-only filters, due
totheir various exposure values. In this paper, the feasibility ofQPOFs to
emulate the response of inverse matched filters (IMFs)is investigated. The
results of the computer simulationexperiments are compared and discussed in
terms of signal tonoise ratio, peak to sidelobe ratio, and
discriminability.

Summary: Variation of the electric field across the plasma sheath
andfloating-potential magnitude are calculated at vacuum arcplasma-plane
floating surface contact. Due to the nonequilibriumconditions in the
cathode-governed vacuum arc plasma, thefloating-potential magnitude is
smaller and the effective plasma
sheath thickness is larger, compared to the values obtained fromthe
expressions valid for the plasma in local thermodynamicequilibrium. The
electric-field strength at floating surface islower accordingly. It is
suggested that the electric-fieldstrength is insufficient to bring about
the unipolar arcinitiation by explosive field-emission mechanism at
distance ofthe order of 1 cm away from the cathode spot(s).

Summary: A new method for phase-stepping grating profilometry of
complexobjects is proposed and verified by experiments. Both, thediscrete
phase distribution and the modulation depth distributionare calculated. To
construct binary control masks and discretevalues and the histogram of the
modulation intensities areinspected first. Then, the blocking lines, which
are connectingthe pairs of opposite poles, are traced down through the
localmini to identify valid and invalid discrete phase distributionsduring
phase unwrapping and phase interpolation, and to controlthe path of phase
unwrapping. The method could equally well beused in grating profilometry or
in interferometry.

Summary: For the investigation of ancient cuneiform inscriptions, an
optoelectronic device with several functions was used and various spatial
filtering experiments were performed. By applying twofold amplitude
filtering, spatial filtering features of different cuneiform elements have
been enhanced, extracted, and analysed. The correlation experiments were
performed by applying complex matched filtering. Input data were
significantly reduced during the filtering procedures. The results
presented demonstrate the possibility of obtaining information such as
similarity measures between different objects in the cluttered scene
analysis problem.

Summary: We elaborated two spectroscopic methods for measuring
temperature distribution in axially symmetric source. One method uses the
self-reversed spectral line; this method is based on comparison of the
measured absolute maximum (peak) intensity with that calculated as a
function of axial temperature. Another method which uses a spectral line
without the self-reversal, was based on the Kirchhoff's law and exploits
two-path absorption technique and Abel transformation. For both methods,
knowledge of atomic broadening constants and transition probabilities is
not crucial.

Title: Feasibility estimate of correlation filters in the
presence of noise
- Authors:
- Demoli, Nazif (87146)
Journal: Optics and Laser Technology
Number of references: 21
Language: engleski
Summary: A novel measure describing an overall estimate of the
feasibility of correlation filters has been previously reported. The
feasibility estimate (FE) of correlation filters is now tested in the
presence of an additive stationary non-zero-mean noise. A simple noise
model is used to describe quantitatively the white noise case as well as
the increase or decrease of the input scene power. The usefulness of the FE
is demonstrated by presenting the results of computer simulations on the
example of quasi phase-only filters. The decision curves are given for the
confidence interval of 0.95 probability of finding the true-class
correlation peak values as a function of the total input signal power.

Summary: The processing procedures for surface relief holograms
recordedon silver halide emulsions are presented. The most promisingmethods
have been investigated and compared. The aim is todevelop and optimize
methods for obtaining relief structures onsilver halide gelatin emulsions
for holography at rather highspatial frequencies. Such a relief pattern can
then be used formaking a metallic matrix. The main advangate of using a
silverhalide material, instead of photoresist material, is thefavorable
sensitivity characteristics over the whole visiblespectrum of silver
materials.

Summary: Spectroholograms are recorded by low spatial
carrierfrequency and by small aperture of the order of few
squaremilimeters. Therefore a total number of primary fringes is of
theorder of few hundreds at most. They are easily opticallyresolved,
electronically detected and sampled by a system ofcommon spatial
resolution, under incoherent illuminationconditions. FFT procedure for the
data reduction of the framegrabbed primary fringes of spectroholograms is
offering order ofmagnitude improvement in spatial resolution. Even more,
becauseprimary fringes are analysed they need not be fotoregistered. Itis
far more convenient to videograbbe them, and analyse in realtime. This is
the second advantage of the procedure we areproposing, and the third is
that just single exposure is neededfor complete analysis. The disadvantage
is that inherentlydifferential property of holographic interferometry is
lost andhas to be compensated for, by digital subtraction of the
phasedistribution characterizing the system, from the phasedistribution
which is obtained for the phase object.
