Summary: An in-beam gamma-ray study performed with the 121Sb(19F,4n) reaction has established the high spin level structure of 138Nd. States up to spin 21 and 8.5 MeV excitation energy have been identified. Nuclear structure calculations were performed in the framework of the Cranking model and of the Interacting boson model. The two 10+ states are identified as the n(h11/2)-2 and p(h11/2)2 configurations.

Summary: The dynamics of collective motion in nuclei is described in the framework of time-dependent relativistic mean field theory. In the limit of small amplitude motion isovector dipole, isoscalar quadrupole and isovector quadrupole oscillations are investigated. Model calculations are performed for 16O, 40Ca, 48Ca, and compared with experimental data on energies and widths of giant resonances. Model calculations show that with increasing excitation energies the motion becomes strongly anharmonic and clusters of particles evaporate from the surface of the nucleus. At highest excitation energies a rapid dissociation of the nucleus in proton and neutron clusters was found.

Summary: A computer program is presented which calculates the time evolution of a nuclear system in the framework of relativistic mean-field theory. Subject to some initial conditions, a coupled system of Dirac and Klein-Gordon partial differential equations describes the evolution of nucleon and meson fields in time. The present version of the program describes isovector dipole, isoscalar and isovector monopole, isoscalar and isovector quadrupole axially symmetric collective motion in nuclei.

Summary: The empirical effective proton-neutron interaction was investigated in the singly closed shell region. It was found that the quadrupole component of the effective interaction is about twice as strong in this region as in the doubly magic one. It was shown that the renormalization of higher order multipole coefficients is also necessary to take into account all effects of the particle-vibration coupling. It was shown that this renormalization can be approximated by lengthening the range of the effective interaction.
