Summary: The optical spectrum of the symbiotic star CH Cygni has been investigated during the period 1987-1989. The measurements of the radial velocities of the unblended spectral lines have shown that the envelope is still expanding, that the absorption lines of both neutral and once ionized elements are formed in the photosphere of the M6III star and that the emission Balmer and FeII lines can be associated with the companion. The blue continuum has completely dissapeared. Two expanding almost permanent envelopes are present.

Summary: The results of spectroscopic measurements in the optical region of CH Cygni in the quiescent phase 1987-1989 have been presented. Although in most spectra the flat transition part of the curve of growth was predominant, a refined fitting procedure made possible the evaluation of excitation temperature and microturbulent velocity for neutral metals in the red giant's photosphere. A regular decrease of excitation temperature has been found suggesting a gradual transition to quiescence. Microturbulent velocities show small erratic variations arround a mean value indicating a stratification in the photosphere of the cool component.
