Summary: The investigation results contributed to understanding of causes, opening channels to prevention and mitigation as well as development of methods and controle of meteorological and hydrological natural disasters.

Keywords: meteorological hazards, maximum precipitation, extreme air temperature, storms, drought, hydrological hazards, floods, low flow, extreme value analysis.

Research goals: The goal of the investigation is to determine the limits and probability of occurance of particular extreme meteorological and hydrological events, specially of those which can be treated as natural disasters depending on their influence to the social community. Targets to be achieved are: 1. Assesment of risks from natural hazards with these assesment taken into account in national development plans. 2. Mitigation plans at national and/or local levels involving long-term prevention and protection. 3. Organization of warning and prediction systems and broad dissemination of warnings.
