Summary: Research within the present project includes two main
topics: 1) nucleoside chemistry and 2) supramolecular chemistry. The topics
include in particular: 1) nucleoside chemistry (a) synthesis and intra- and
inter-molecular transformations of 3,4-seco-nucleosides; b) synthesis of
novel azido- and phosphoramido-derivatives of nucleosides c) synthesis of
modified nucleosides and dinucleosides; d) synthesis of nephroprotective
derivatives of hexahydoindazol dicarboxylic acid and their complexes with
cis-platinum 2) supramolecular chemistry: a) design and synthesis of
molecular receptors for aromatic substrates including nucleosides and
nucleotides; b) design and synthesis of fluorescence responsive molecular
receptors c) synthesis of fluoroionophores d) molecular receptors for
binding and transport of amino acids and peptides, e) fluorescent sensor
molecules for metal cations.
Research goals: Syntheses of different nucleoside analogs with
potential anti-cancer and anti-viral activity. Synthetic modifications of
the sugar part of the natural nucleosides and preparation of nucleotide
analogs with modified phosphodiester bond. Synthesis of ''reversed''
nucleosides bearing nucleo-base at C-5 position of ribose unit and their
use as precursors for preparation of ''double headed'' nucleoside analogs
having pyrimidine or purine bases attached at C-1 and C-5 positions of a
single ribose unit. Syntheses of new derivatives of tetrahydroindazolone
carboxylic acid (HIDA) as potential nephroprotective agents in cis-DDP
anti-cancer therapy. Design and synthesis of artificial carrier molecules
for amino acids and metal cations. Design and synthesis of molecular
receptors capable of binding and recognition of flat aromatic substrates
including nucleosides and nucleotides. Preparation of fluorescent sensor
molecules for metal cations.
