Summary: Project "Investigation of fauna and ecology of vertebrates of Eastern Croatia" covers preparation of the inventory of all vertebrate species - birds, mammals, reptilia, amphibia and fishes - living in Eastern Croatia, determination of their distribution area and population level. Also, research will give the answer which of them are threatened species. On the basis of this research, measures for the protection and management for these species could be drawn out.

Research goals: Main aims of project "Investigation of fauna and ecology of vertebrates of Eastern Croatia" are: a) answer the question how many vertebrates species live in Eastern Croatia; b) determine their distribution range and population level; c) determination of extinction and/or new species occurence on the basis of comparation recent and past data; and d) determine the population dinamics. Some species, e.g. Great Cormorant and White-tailed Eagle, would be study in details especially their ecology. On the basis of these results we will be able to use the knowledge on fauna and ecology of vertebrates of Eastern Croatia in order to conserve, protect and use on sustainable way the natural heritage of this region.
