Summary: In the Adriatic Sea, about 3760 species from groups discussed arenoted, 4 among them perhaps are endemics. This makes 60-70 % ofall species recorded in the Mediterranean. From the continentalhabitats of the ex Yugoslavia, about 5100 species and 1140subspecies are known. In general, our fauna is scarcely known, the number of taxonomists is much too low, and the shortage intaxonomic literature is acute.

Its borealcharacteristics are pronounced in the northern Adriatic. Thesouthern Adriatic part is characterized in bathyphilous andthermophilous species, but the central part of the Adriatic Seaalso is inhabited by a number of bathyphilous fishes.

    Held: from 10/11/93 to 10/16/93
Summary: Along the Makarska littoral, in a long-time survey of marinebenthic macroflora 321 taxa were identified (Rhodophyta 190=59.2%, Phaeophyta 66=20.6 %, Chlorophyta 60=18.7 %, Cyanophyta 2=0.6%, Spermatophyta 3=0.9 %). The R/P factor (2.9) pointed out asubtropical character of the Makarska benthic flora. Most species(48.6 %) show a wide Atlantic distribution pattern, whileMediterranean and cosmopolitan elements comprise 21.8 % each. Sixtaxa (1.9 %) are endemics of the Adriatic Sea.

Summary: The nematofauna in the Makarska harbour sediments was analyzed.Taxonomic list presented is supplied by species abundance, dominance and constancy data. In total 93 species, 60 genera and23 families were noted. Nine species were not recorded in theAdriatic Sea previously. In comparison to other Adriatic regions,in the area surveyed, results pointed out a peculiar taxonomicdiversity and species' richness in free living nematofauna.
