Summary: Mammlian adrenal glands are sensitive on higher amount of
oxygen(hyperoxia).Molecular oxygen easily transformed in agresive
oxygen radicals which damaged different tissues.In this project we have
investigated influence of high amount of oxygen on level of vitamin
C,cytochrome P-450 and lipid peroxidation in adrenal cortex mitochondria
and microsomes.Adrenal organelles were bubbled with oxygen 5-90 min at 37
degres.Oxygen strongly deplited level of vitamin C and cytochrome P-450 and
increased lipid peroxidation in adrenal cortex mitochondria and microsomes.
Adrenal mitochondria incubated with different amount of vitamin C
synthetized in vitro higher amount of steroid hormones than intact
adrenals.These results show that vitamin C is important
antioxidant which protects adrenals from harmful activity of free oxygen
radicals.
Research goals: We have desired to determine reactivity of adrenal
mitochondria and microsomes on higher amount of oxygen (hxperoxia).It is
known that molecular oxygen formed reactive free radicals which damaged all
lipids.proteins.DNA and cell function.In this investigation we wished to
found activity on enzymes of steroid hormone hydrxilation in adrenal
cortex after hyperoxia.
