Summary: Plot 82 is one of a hundred permanent plots thet are have
been set up in Croatia for the purpose of long-term and continual
investigations of ecosystems and their succesions. It is located in the
area of Karleušine Plase within the Plitvice Lakes National Park. The
floristic and phytocenological characteristics have been analyzed on the
basis of 17 phytocenological records. In addition, some soil
characteristics have been analyzed; soil moisture, calcium carbonate,
phosphates, pH value, humus, cation exchange capacity and nitrogen
mineralization on the site. The results obtained are comparable with the
data presented in the available phytocenological and ecological literature.

Summary: The vegetation on permanent plot 84 in the area of the
Plitvice Lakes National Park belongs to the Genisto-Callunetum illyricum
association. This association is used for grazing and is occasionally
affected by fires as a land management practice. Due to the fact that for
at least 35 years neither pasture nor burning was recorded on plot 84, the
association developed in an incomplete florsitic composition, and bushlike
type vegetation succession started appearing. In 1989 and 1990 sudden and
unplanned grazing and fires occurred. Floristic composition did not change
after fire but changes in the species cover values were identified, and
soil nitrogen mineralization and nitrification were increased.
