Summary: Investigations of ruderal vegetation in Croatia are
primarily concerned with vegetation along roads, forest margins and
river-banks. Phytocoenological and phytogeographical characteristics,
distributions and role of adventitious plants, with special amphasis on
neophytes, are investigated. The investigations of population structure and
ecology of widespread neophytic stands with Solidago gigantea and
Helianthus tuberosus on the river-banks in northwestern Croatia were also
done. The communities of lowland and hill grasslands of Croatia are
investigated phytosociologically and ecologically. Syntaxonomy of some
meadow communities and the distribution of several important or rare
grassland plants are investigated. Essential site conditions in some
grassland communities are analysed, especially the soil moisture and the
soil nitrogen mineralization dynamics.
Research goals: To complete the knowledge about the ruderal and
grassland flora and vegetation of Croatia. To establish main migration
routes of neophyta in Croatia. Expected results New data about the
floristic composition, distribution and ecology of different grassland and
ruderal communities, recent observations of distribution and naturalization
of neophyta. Other information about the project.
