Title: Dispersion in low albite: High accuracy spindle stage measurements between 480 and 632 nm

Summary: A spindle stage eyuipped polarized microscope with Nakamurahalf-shade plate has been used to determine the opticalindicatrix dispersion of Roc Tourne low albite at 480, 540, 589and 630 nm. This end-member low albite (NaAlSi3O8) exhibits weakbut highly significant triclinic dispersion, although the anglebetween corresponding indicatrix directions at differentwavelengths is below 0.53. The dispersion of refractive indiceswas measured with the double-variation method. These results arein excellent agreement with previous measurements on Clear Creeklow albite. Systematic differences are observed for the opticaxial angle, 2Vx, which are probably related to Si,Al ordering. These data demonstrate uses and limitations of spindle stagetechnique.

Summary: Senaite from Alinci (Yugoslavia), formerly determined asdavidite, was analysed by ICP AES and X-ray diffraction. Theresults indicate that the mineral is unusually rich in uranium(ca. 11% U3O8) and depleted in REE with the average structuralformula(Pb0.87Sr0.10(REE+Y)0.02)S0.99(Ti13.48Fe6.00U0.78Sn0.09V0. 05Zn0.05Cr0.05Ga0.04)S20.54O38. Uranium-induced rediation damage causedrather complete metamictization. X-ray powder diffractionpatterns obtained after annealing yield annealing yield hexagonalcell parameters a=10.382A and c=20.899A, similar to those ofdavidite. Althoughlow in total REE, the senaite shows a markedLREE enrichment, implying oxidative hydrothermal veinmineralization.

Summary: The garnets from the complex of Seleča Mountain could be dividedin two groups on the basis of their chemical composition andzoning. The garnets from muscovite-schist and amphibole-schistshow characteristics typical for a growth in prograde metamorphicconditions up to the medium metamorphic grade. Characteristics ofthe other garnets (from aplite granite, aplite veins andmetabasite) suggest their formation in anatectic or highlymetasomatic conditions. The inversion in chemical zoning, observed in some of them, is discussed and related to possibleprocesses of growth.

Summary: Crven dol represents the uppermost part of the Alšar ore body with the lower temperature of formation. Mineralogical and petrological investigations show pronaunced oxidation effects. An influence of oxigenated meteoric waters was already present during the hydrothermal stage, and it continued with a final formation of jarositic minerals. The first product of the hydrothermal solution was a transformation of dolomite into ankerite. The first minerals deposited from solutions were siderite, pyrite and marcasite in the finegrained mixture. With a drop in temperature realgar followed. Some of realgar crystals include oxidation products (pharmacosiderite). In the last and the main stage when stability field of lorandite was reached mixture of realgar and lorandite crystallized. The last minerals in veins are oxidation products of sulphides (amorphous Fe-sulphate-arsenate and dorallcharite). The content of thallium in hydrothermal solutions was high during all the stages. Two processes of Tl concentration in the solid phase were active, crystallization of lorandite and supergene enrichment of Tl in jarositic minerals.

Summary: Siderite, ankerite, calcite and aragonite are determined in well known hyalophane contained alpine veins from Zagrađe near Busovača. Siderite is the early carbonate in paragenesis, arrangement of crystal faces resulted in two types of habit: isometric with caracteristic elements of trigonal symetry and isometric with elements of pseudomonoclinic symmetry. The unit rhombohedron and twin on basal pinacoid are representative habits for ankerite. Saddle-shaped rhombohedrons of calcite and aragonite have been separated among late carbonates. The solution contained more Fe, Mn, Mg at the begining of crystalization and more Ca during the final stage. Such a complex solution generated the described carbonates according to their variable solubility.
