Summary: We intended to investigate few different mineral
assemblages by using modern mineralogical methods, among which we
emphasize: Two mineral assemblages having barium silicates, namely the
hydrothermal occurrence near Busovača (Bosnia) and metamorphic occurrence
near Nežilovo (Macedonia); both by their composition represent a world
rarity. A wide area (vicinity of Macelj) in Hrvatsko Zagorje with tuffs,
tuffites and effusives where zeolites and other alteration products are the
subject of our interest. Hydrothermal deposit in Alšar (Macedonia) which
contains thallium sulphosalts together with some other sulfides and
oxysalts as potential bearers of thallium.
Research goals: The main goal of investigation of entire
mineralization associated with Ba anomaly near Busovača and Nežilovo, is
to collect the knowledge which could be the fundamental worldwide
contribution to mineralogy of investigated species. A study of zeolites
and phyllosilicates originated from pyroclastites and mixed sediments
should solve problems of identification of certain mineral species, their
genesis and usefulness of these rocks. The goal of investigation of
Tl-sulphosalts and entire association from Alšar is mineralogy,
minerogenesis and chrystallochemistry of found species. These topics
belong to three different entirety. Samples from world recognized
hydrothermal deposits of hialophane near Busovača in Bosnia and barium
mineralization in metamorphites near Nežilovo in Macedonia (both
inaccessible since 1991 because of war activities) contain amineral
abundance, with rare minerals as cymrite, hialophane, barium mica,
tilasite, ardenite, hedyphane, nežilovite which seek for detailed and
complex mineralogical investigation in order to establish their chemical,
morphological, structural and genetic characteristics as well as, their
variability with respect to changing of conditions during crystallization.
A study of zeolites of the wider area of Macelj aims to establish their
chrystalochemical nature and physical propeties, and solve a numerous open
questions in zeolites systematics, conditions of origin and stability of
zeolites and accompanied secondary minerals. Alšar deposit gives us the
opportunity to study, among others, Tl-sulphosalts, which have been
discovered in a very few localities worldwide, and which are only recently
subjected to thorough scientific interest. Furthermore, our department was
alsoinvolved in the project P-136 "The use of thallium minerals as the Sun
originated neutrino detectors".
