Summary:
The Karst hydrogeological region of Croatia occupies 26,600 km2,
i.e. nearly a half of the country. Almost the whole region is
composed of carbonate rocks karstified to varying degrees. The
renewable karst groundwater resources are about twenty times
greater than the present use in the whole country. Taking into
account a high quality of this water and the absence of serious
vulnerability, it is indeed a valuable "strategic resource" of
Croatia.
