Title: THE INFLUENCE OF THE RECENT KARSTIFICATION ON WATER EXTRACTION

    Authors:
    Fritz, Franjo (12523)

    Journal: Geološki vjesnik
    Number: 44
    ISSN: 0016-7942
    Volume: 44
    Year: 1991
    Pages: from 281 to 288
    Language: hrvatski
Summary: The ussefulness of studying the morphological evolution of recentrelief and karstification is demonstrated by threemorphologically different karst terrains. Using the results ofthese studies, as well as earlier geological and hydrogeologicalmapping, the knowledge about constructioon feasibilities ofseveral storage basins has been considerably improved. It hasalso contributed to bringing about very successful intakes of karst groundwater.
Keywords: Karst, recent karstification, karst hydrogeology, storage bottom leakage, groundwater intakes.

Summary: The paper describes the problem of establishing sanitaryprotection zones around water sources in karst regions, citing asan example the principal postulates of the Draft Propposal of Amendments to Regulations on Protective Measures and Conditionsfor Establising Sanitaryy Protection Zones of Potable WaterSources. The paper proposes the number of sanitaryy protection zones, criteria for delimiting general zones, and suggests thathydrogeological investigation works are necessary.

    Volume: 47
    Year: 1994
    Pages: from 215 to 220
    Language: engleski
Summary: The intermittent karst spring Slanac east of the town of Trogir is a unique karst phenomenon by its appearance at an altitude of 30 m above sea level. This is a consequence of the areal hydrogeology and the development karstification and karst groundwater flow paths from the most recent glaciation to the present. There are at least three factors controlling the discharge of brackish water at such altitudes during the highest groundwater tides: (a) a considerably greater permeability of calcareous rocks lying below the present sea level in comparison to the permeability of the upper parts, (b) the presence of almost pure sea water upstream of a hanging hydrogeological barrier at the spring site at the end of a dry season, (c) ever higher hydraulic resistance to groundwater flow below the hanging hydrogeological barrier due to ever longer siphonal flows and their gradual colmatation.
Keywords: brackish springs, sea water intrusion, coastal karst phenomena, karst hydrogeology, Trogir, Croatia

Title: IZVOR BOLJKOVAC - PRIMJER POVEĆANE EKSPLOATACIJE KRŠKOG PRIOBALNOG IZVORA

    Authors:
    Pavičić, Ante (35304)
    Proceedings title: AQUIFER OVEREXPLOATATION
    Language: engleski
    Place: Islas Canarias, Espana
    Year: 1991
    Pages: from 515 to 518
    Meeting: XXIII IAH Congres
    Held: from 04/15/91 to 04/19/91
Summary: The Boljkovac spring is 3500 m far from the Adriatic Sea and 3.25above sea level. Its drainage area is situated in a low coastalkarst terrain. The basic characterstic of the spring is that itswater is fresh during the dry season (having the rate ofdischarge not surpassing 10 l/s) and slightly brachish in the wetseason. This suggested the existence of concentrated ground-waterflows on altitudes lower than sea level. After a test pumping, the pumping construction was built by which about ten timesgreater quantity of water pumped out during the dry season thanit used to discharge earlier and pumped water saqlinity did notincrease substantially.
Keywords: Karst, overexploatation of a Karst spring.

Meeting: International Symposium "Geomorphology and the Sea" THE KVARNER REGION AND ADJENCENT AREAS
    Held: from 09/22/92 to 09/26/92
Summary: Under recent geomorphological processes in coastal karst terrainsone may understand the karstification that has taken place sincethe last glacial until recent, influenced by sea-levell rise infunction of erosional base for karst ground-water. This continoussea-level rise, still active, is related to development of recentcoastal brackish springs and vruljas. During the recent sea-levelrise location of springs and vruljas has been changing andconsequently quiet many underground and surficial karst featureshave developed. Some of these karst phenomena are even 10 km awayfrom the present sea coast.
Keywords: karst, recent coastal karstification, coastal brackish springs, vrulja.

Title: POSSIBILITIES OF WASTE DISPOSAL IN DALMATIA

    Authors:
    Fritz, Franjo (12523)
    IVANČIĆ, BRANKO
    Editors
    GEREŠ, DRAGUTIN
    Proceedings title: ZBORNIK RADOVA 1
    Language: hrvatski
    Place: Dubrovnik
    Year: 1995
    ISBN/ISSN: 953-96455-1-4
    Pages: from 327 to 333
Meeting: "Osnove strategije zaštite voda i mora od zagađivanja u Republici Hrvatskoj"
    Held: from 05/24/95 to 05/27/95
Summary: The possibilities of disposal of matter hazardous to sea and water in the inland part of Dalmatia are very limited from the hydrogeologigical aspect. For this reason the majority of dump sites is in inadequate locations. The causes for the said limitation are many. The majority of this karst terrain falls into the protected areas with hig-yield srpings and potable water well fields, and they are prohibited for waste disposal. The majority of the remaining terrain belongs go the catchments og the closed bays and estauries of the rivers, which are the waters of a very sensitive ecosystem. Deterioration in water quality in these predominanlty protected areas (e.g. Mali Ston and Kaštela bays, the Krka River estuary) might cause unpredictable adverse effects on the flora and fauna in the reion. When the active and potential tourist centers are also excluded, Dalmatia is left with a narrow intermittent belt by the sea shore for waste disposal. With respect to the territorial sea protection, this remaining terrain is goruped in three categories, depending on wheter it is made of permeable, less permeable or poorly permeable rocks. For each category, the macro locations offering optimum natural conditions for waste disposa are proposed.
Keywords: karst, waste, water and sea protection, Dalmatia
