Summary: The Upper Permian sediments from central part of the Dinarides contain three main facies: 1.-carbonates; 2.-evaporites with early-diagenetical dolomites and 3.-clastic rocks (silstones and sandstones) and one special rock type - carbonate cavity breccias. The carbonate facies include lagoonal and intertidal limestone, evaporite facies contain gypsum (originated by hydration of anhydrites), early-diagenetical dolomites and anhydrites deposited in coastal sabkha environment. The clastic rocks were deposited either fore-shore or playa to saltlake playa environments. The carbonate cavity breccias are interpretated as a terrestrial features, i.e. secondary surface products o fphysical and chemical weathering of tectonically disrupted carbonate-evaporite sediments. The Upper Permian evaporites and carbonates of the central Dinarides are sediments deposited in evaporitic conditions arround the edges of an epeiric marine basin which existed in conditions of a general regressive tendency and permanent coastal seawards progradation. The UpperPermian evaporites of central Dinarides are comparable withevaporites from the Bellerophon Formation from the Southern Alps,Italy.

Summary: Shallow-water carbonates in the Upper Jurassic of the Gorski Kotar were deposited on a carbonate ramp, in beach-barrier island-lagoonal and peritidal environments. In the continuous sequence, more than 900 m thick, several facies have been found:A- low-energy shallow-water wackestones/mudstones of the Lower Oxfordian; B- high-energy shallow-water grainstones of the Middle Oxfordian; C- low-energy, above the fair-weather wave-base packstones of the uppermost Oxfordian and transition to the Kimmeridgian; D- shallowing-upward/coarsening-upward units formed through progradation of beach-tidal bars of barries over the peritidal deposits of the Kimmeridgian and the beginning of the Tithonian and E- peritidal shallowing-upward units capped by storm tidal deposits of the Tithonian and beginning of the Berriasian.

Summary: Correlation of the Upper Jurassic sedimnetary successions of western Gorski Kotar and Istria reveal a great facies similarity during the Oxfordian (outer carbonate ramp system in Gorski Kotar and carbonate ramp and prograding bars forming a tidal bars and rimmed shelf system in Istria). During the Kimmeridgian and Early Tithonian very important differences occurred between facies units in Gorski Kotar and Istria. While in the area of Gorski Kotar there was continuous shallow-water sedimentation, a very prominent, and long-lasting emersion occurred in Istria. Such a difference was predominantly caused by synsedimentary tectonics, as the local sea-level curve was only partially modified by global eustatic changes. During the Kimmeridgian and Early Tithonian in western Croatia distincly different environments existed: land in Istria, peritidal conditions in NW Gorski Kotar and deeper, lagoonal environments in SE Gorski Kotar.

Summary: During the Early Kimmeridgian in the southeastern part of Gorski Kotar there was a deeper-water lagoonal depositional system, bounded by carbonate ramps as a consequence of synsedimentary tectonics. In the central part of this, rather spaceous intraplatform lagoon, which was occasionally connected with the open sea, so-called Lemeš-deposits were deposited. At the margin of the lagoon, i.e in the upper, higher-energy part of the ramp, hydrozoan-coral refs were formed, providing material for massive peri-reefal deposits. Late Kimmeridgian progradation of the facies belts toward the central part of the lagoon is represented in the sedimentary record by a gradual decrease in the abundance of lagoonal deposits, and corresponding increase of peri-refal detritus. In the Early Tithonian progradation continued, leading to the further reduction of intraplatform lagoon, while by the Late Tithonian the area of former lagoon was completely covered by shallow-water deposits - peri-reefal and reefal facies.

Summary: In the Cenomanian shallow-water carbonates in Istria four units with distinct transtressive-regressive trends were distinguished. The first unit compprises Albian/Lower Cenomanian peritidal deposits in all studied areas in Istrien. The beginning of the second unit is marked by the relative sea-level rise, recorded in all part of the study area. Differentiation of sedimentary enviroments occurred near the Lower to Middle Cenomanian boundary represents the consequence of the local synsedimentary tectonics emphasised by the glogal sea-level rise at the end of the Lower Cenomanian. The third unit is characterised by moderate relative sea-level rise. In the western part of northern Istria it was a very low amplitude. In the central part shoreface retreat (retrogradation) took place during the transgressive part of the sea-level curve, and during the highstand progradation formed a shallowing-upward sequence caped by foreshore deposits. The most conspicuous result of the deepening were recorded in the eastern part of northern Istria, represented by tempestites, confirming deepening below fair-weather wave base. In sothern Istria predominantly shallow-water deposits were accumulated. A very prominent transgressive event towards the end of the Middle Cenomanian, characterised by rapid and relatively high sea-level rise, denoted the beginning of the fourth unit. From the succession in Istria it is to conclude that Cenomanian synsedimentary tectonics were important in modifying the influence of the global eustatic changes, and lead to the evident facies differentiation in the study area.
