Summary: Project: "Engineering-geological basis for the wider Split
area" deals with detailed investigations of the coastal belt covering the
area from Trogir to Omiš, with the islands of Šolta, Čiovo, Drvenik veli
and Drvenik mali. The results of the research will be applied in the
engineering practice and they will yield new data which will make it
possible to complete the already existing data on the rocks of karst and
flysch terrains. The field investigations will be carried out employing
standard methods and special attention will be paid to the characteristics
of rocks subjected to engineering works. The laboratory tests will be
planned so that their results make it possible to define the influence of
natural processes upon the rocks after cutting. The investigation results
will be published gradually, and finally they will ba collected in a
monograph with the developed proposal for making an inventory of
engineering-geological phenomena in the area under study.

Research goals: The objective of this research includes the need for
publication of an engineering geological map of 1:25000 scale, accompanied
by key for the respective area, and followed by the survey map of all
research activities performed when the objects have been prepared for
building; with the respective land register suggesting different research
method which depend upon the type of a building object. The suggested
research has resulted in providing an engineering geological foundation of
the respective area, as the basis for the further detailed engineering
geological research on microlocation; in establishing a land register of
research work which could be constantly completed according to the specific
methodology; as well as; in proposing the methodology of research depending
on type and complexity of the object. In the fifteen-year period (that lies
ahead) we can expect the publishing of eight authentic scientific papers,
fifteen professional papers, another two enlarged and revised editions of
text-books - manuals and a monograph "The Engineering - geological
foundation of the area surrounding Split".
