Summary: Communications needs of the future informatics society will besolved by enabling each user access to the existing and new telecommunication services through unified telecommunication network - Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN). The ISDNconcept will be gradually realized in several phases accompanied with specific regional characteristics in approaching the realization. Consideration of the basic specific qualities of our network, observation of particular user requirements, migrationof a part of the existing functions, cooperation with the existing networks, etc. make the problem of introducting ISDN into the network of the Republic of Croatia extremely complex. By these researches, solution to the mentioned problems is planned, which is to enable the development of the telecommunication network in the Republic of Croatia in accordance with the European and world trends.

Keywords: Telekommunications,network,ISDN,ISDN-PABX,packet switching network management,transmission

Research goals: The researches regard the introduction of ISDN into the Croatian network and comprise six interconnected program fields: -ISDN switching for public networks -ISDN-PABX (switching) for private networks -ISDN-PH packet data switching -mobile (cellular) network -transmission basis -telecommunication network management. The aims of the research are the following: -determination and analysis of all specific characteristics of the Croatian network -indentification and analysis of all the additional user requirements -analysis of the problem of cooperation between ISDN and the networks existing in the Republic of Croatia -indentification of the migration need of the present network functions in ISDN -determination of the need for a flexible transmission network by the application of digital switching -analysis of the organizational, information and business model of telecommunication network management -decomposition of the discovered problems up to the level of function specification and implementation suggestion -development plan coordinated with implementation dynamics-development, testing and introduction of the necessary functions. The expected contribution of the suggested research is as follows: -solution to the specific problems of the Croatian network at the introduction of ISDN -development of additional user requirements in the Croatian network at the introduction of ISDN -migration of a part of the existing functions from the Croatian network into ISDN -development of flexible transmission network model -development of model and telecommunication network management method -development of all the functions necessary for the introduction of ISDN into the Croatian network.
