Summary: The monthly average values of the utilizability functionconcerning the photovoltaic system have been calculated for theconstant average daily load. This was done by using the measuredhourly global and diffuse incident solar radiation data on ahorizontal surface. Based on this calculation the PHI-diagram wasobtained for the observed region. The computer simulation programwas developed and utilized to determine the diagram of energydissipated in the photovoltaic system for several ratio values ofthe battery storage capacity and the average load. The amount ofenergy disposable to the consumer and the amount of conventionalenergy displaced by the photovoltaic array have been estimated.

Summary: Through computer simulation of energy in a photovoltaic systemwith storage battery, the monthly average daily amount of energythat would have been dissipated if there were no storage, isderived. That energy is also computed on the basis of utilityconcept and results are compared with those obtained by thesimulation. The presented comparison proves also the validity andreliability of the whole computer model applied to thephotovoltaic system.

Summary: In estimating the energy in a photovoltaic system the computersimulations are used, but in some cases the simple graphicaldesign methods can be applied. One of those methods is thePHI-chart. In this paper the PHI-chart was determined using thehourly global and diffuse solar radiation data. The excess energyfor the photovoltaic system was estimated using the PHI-chart. Bythe computer simulations the amount of energy available to theload and the amount of excess energy depending upon the ratio ofbattery capacity and load were determined.

Summary: In order to simulate and optimize the work of the photovoltaicsystem it is needed to define the models of its structural parts:panel, battery and load. In this paper simulation model has beendeveloped in such way that any kind of load can be included(ohmic resistance, current load, power load). The photovoltaicarray model is defined by its current - voltage (V-I)characteristic as a function of solar radiation level and ambienttemperatrue. The battery model is described by the empiricalexpression including the current - voltage dependence, capacity, and losses which accure during the process of energy accumulationand consumption.

Summary: One of the topics of the IEA Task XIV program deals withminimizing the duration of flat-plate collector dynamic test,so-called one-day tests. Using an available theoretical model, weexamined how to control the operating conditions in order tofacilitate the test procedure. The results of the analysis havebeen verified in outdoor laboratory tests. The results clearyshow, that one-day test goal is realistic under clear-skyconditions, if the collector inlet fluid temperature is variedthrough a wide range during the test run and if a sufficientrange of wind speeds is available.

Summary: The photovoltaic system has been analysed through computer simulation in order to improve its energy conversion efficiency. The characteristic parameters of the system were estimated. The value of the utilizability function and PHI-chart were determined. The further work will be continued on the experiments with materials suitable for the conversion of solar energy. The selection of the methods and materials for the energy accumulation will be made.
