Summary: Core loss, magnetizing current and noise level of
transformer core with step-lap joints are investigated. The following
parameters are considered: core induction, core design, dimensions of
laminations, overlap length, number of overlaps in one layer and number of
sheets per layer. The investigation is experimental, on a large number of
scale models, and theoretical, using numerical field and loss calculation.
Research goals: The aim of the investigation is the explanation of
the phenomena in transformer core with step-lap overlap in joints, and
verification of the influence of that design on core loss, magnetizing
current and noise level. It should be found how different parameters
influence magnetic characteristics of the core. Possible practical
applications of this investigation could give a reduction of: transformer
core loss of about 10%, magnetizing current of about 50% and noise level
of about 2-5 dB. Other information about the project.
