Summary: The monthly average values of the utility function
concerning
the photovoltaic system have been calculated for the constant
average daily load. This was done by using the measured hourly
global and diffuse incident solar radiation data on a
horizontal surface. Based on this calculation the phi-diagram
for the observed region was obtained. The computer simulationprogram was
developed and utilized to determine the diagram ofenergy dissipated in the
photovoltaic system for several ratiovalues of the battery storage capacity
and the average load. Theamount of energy disposable to the consumer and
the amount ofconventional energy displaced by the photovoltaic array have
beenestimated.

Summary: In operation, the solar cell temperature rises to the
equilibrium level (operating temperature) at which the heat
outflow plus the electrical output equal the solar energy
inflow. The maximum amount of power which is converted into
electricity depends upon the cell's operating temperature. In
this work are presented the results relating to the various
operating temperatures, obtained on the basis of the measured
values for maximum output power voltage and efficiency at the
reference temperature.

Summary: In this work methods for estimating the long term
performance
of a photovoltaic system are outlined. One approach to this
problem is to use the utilizability function. The optimal
photovoltaic array tilt, the minimum area, the amount of
dissipated energy and energy available to load is determined
for several regions in Croatia. The use of a solar/wind hybrid
system is also discussed.

Summary: The work of a photovoltaic sistem has been simulated for
the
Bitola region (Macedonia) using the hourly values of five
years period data for global and diffuse solar radiation
incident on a horizontal surface. The phi-chart is developed on
the basis of the calculated values for the utilizability
function using meteorological data for the same region. The
diagrams for characteristic energies obtained by the computer
simulations together with those representing the phi-curves
were used to determine the energy flow through the
photovoltaic system.

Summary: The performance of monocrystalline Si, amorphous Si and
GaAs
solar cells are compared and device parameters (efficiency,
temperature coefficient of efficiency and thermal loss
coefficient) are discussed. Using developed computer
simulation program the energy flow through a photovoltaic
system and the amount of obtained electrical energy are
determined. The influence of device parameters on the system
performance is determined. Simulations are performed for
several regions of Croatia.
