Summary: Materials and methods for solar thermal and photovoltaic
applications of solar energy are investigated. The methods and materials
for thermal and electrical energy storage are studied. The effects of
temperature on various solar cells were investigated. The photovoltaic
system has been analyzed in order to improve it's conversion efficiency.
The characteristic parameters of the system were estimated. Computer
simulations of solar system performances in various region of Croatia are
performed. The importance of using regionally modified correlations is
established. The values of the modified utilizability function are
determined for our climatic region. The performances of monocristalline and
amorphous silicon and GaAs solar cells are compared and the influence of
device parameters on the system performance is discussed.

Research goals: Goals of the project are to improve solar
conversion efficiency, particularly in photovoltaic applications, to
develop regional correlations for system performance evaluation, and to
study the influence of various parameters on the system performance. By
developing methods for the simulation of the photovoltaic work and
modeling it's components, it is possible to estimate energy flow through
the system and it's optimal work. In order to perform system evaluation,
various empirical correlations are to be developed.Comparative study of
various systems are to be performed.
