Summary: The behaviour of instrument transformers at power system
transients is investigated. Test methods and criteria for acceptance tests
of instrument transformers have been implemented by laboratory simulation
of the phenomena in the network. On the basis of experimental and
theoretical investigations the design and technology solutions have been
imporved in order to increase the reliability of transformers in operation.
A separate subtask is the development of a special device for detaction of
possible faults at instrument transformers that locks them out before
damage is made.
Research goals: The main goal of the project is to increase the
reliability of instrument transformers in operation. Further, it is
expected to increase the level of knowledge from the view of behaviour of
instrument transformers in steady and transient states for the purpose of
creating a quality basis for dimensioning and testing of instrument
transformers. The investigations should provide all the elements for the
development of devices for transformer lock-out at the stage preceding
failure. Participation in IEC Working Group enables direct insight into the
state-of-the-art in the world in this area. Other information about the project.
