Summary: 1. The project will try to explain the transition from a
continuous signal to a coded language. Also, it will study hybrid
intelligence and its applicability to associative reasoning and
classification processes. 2. The project should define a new scientific and
technological discipline: Intelligence Systems Integration (ISI). The
paradigms of ISI should be defined, spanning from biological to software
processes. A taxonomy of ISI will be developed. 3. An international ISI
group will be formed, coordinated from Zagreb.
Research goals: Since 1986, the research of neural networks and
genetic algorithms as separate disciplines has progressed quickly. The most
significant algorithm in this area is still the error back-propagation
algorithm. The majority of research has been concerned with speeding up
that algorithm. However, only slight improvements have been obtained. For
this reason, there is a strong feeling that new research directions are
needed. This project opens such a new direction: hybrid intelligence.
Through the project, links with 20 appropriate world centers will be
established, with an idea to exchange experiences and results. The project
aims to develop computer models for various concepts, including brain
windows, neural adaptation, alternative projections, and genetic
programming. Intelligent systems are the basis of the new economy and
industry emerging in Europe, Japan and America. They are a necessary
condition for development in our country and for transition to the fifth
and sixth generation of technology.
