Summary: Flexible technoly has become an unavoidable factor in modern production systems design. In relation to constructional and technological characteristics of mechanical products there are plenty of requirements on flexibility of production systems. The largest processing posssibilities are offered by the systems wit huniversal flexibility. The high flexibility level of production system often results with the increase of the production system price, drop in savings and drop in quality. Therefore, it is to be recommended the optimal correlation between flexibility and productivity of the production system.

Summary: One of the basic factors for effective operative process control is cycle of processing. Precisely determined structure and lasting of all activies of processing cycle is the fundamental prerequisite for itďs safe use at operative determining (defining) of work piece course during a process of production. However, difficulties may appear considering determining of the same. One of the ways, rather precise and reliable is determining of the cycle off processing by a graphic method, based on discreet simulation of the conditions of the production process course. Researches that were carried on (regarding structure and lasting of cycle of processing in various models of production systems) prove that the graphic method is enough precise and reliable.

Summary: When bringing a decision on introduction of flexible manufacturing system, a traditional approach based on the relation of production costs and the results cannot be used. Naimely, the results of system's use cannot be expressed only by identification of costs and results on single working sites of the system. In the paper, the method of valorization of the manufacturing system's solution is presented, which is part of a developed systematics of planning multi-object manufacturing system. The developed and represented complex evaluation method of system solution is based on variant solutions of the system.

Summary: Development of market requirements and production technique leads to changes of structure and basic manufacturing systems characteristics, specially when different workpieces are machining. This changes put new requirements on the project. In this paper, the method which insure influence of relevant factors and criteria on the project results, are given. Essential component of the method is value procedure of particular basic manufacturing system results expressed by total system characteristic. The method enables value estimation of those characteristic difficulty expressed by cost price, but which influences on manufacturing system efficiency in the whole period of exploatation.

Summary: This work submitsthe method for the whole workpiece assortment segmentation in the homogenous groups intended for machining on adequate basic manufacturing system (BMS). Grouping is based on constructional, technological and productive factors of the manufacturing program and the production equipment by conditions of the same sort production equipment and the suficient utilisation degree of that equipment under the joint model of BMS. Suggested method is supported by personal computer what enables quality workpiece grouping and optimization of possible BMS models under concept definition of the manufacturing system project, where the financial investments, production layout surfaces, capacity reserves, operativity and flexibility are used as optimizing criteria expressed by the total system characteristic. This method is examined in the concret example.

Title: AN INVESTIGATION OF TOOL WEAR AND BREAKAGE SENSORS APPLICATION IN FLEXIBLE MANUFACTURING SYSTEM
Faculty: Tehnički fakultet Sveučilište u Rijeci
    Author: MIKAC TONČI
    Date of defense: 12/23/91
    Language: hrvatski
    Number of pages: 174
Summary: This paper identifies requirements which tool wear and tool break sensors as a part of flexible manufacturing systems must satisfy for comercial application. The paper gives a survey of tool wear, tool break and collision sensors on direct and indirect sensing techniques. All characteristics of different methods and set-ups are presented. The results of investigation of tool wear and tool break sensors application based on the measurement of cutting forces by strain-gage technique are systematised and analysed. The sensing method is tested by variation of work and tool material in experimental measurements. Reliability and economy for this chosen method are estimated.

Summary: The concept of the PPS software program aid is based upon adequate data-basis, numerical data processing and interactive activity of the planner, allows a quick, efficient and scientifically based elaboration of manufacturing system project concept. A developed program comprises: - the generation of a data-base - segmenting of a conplex manufacturing system into basic subsystems, based on suitable grouping of similar workpieces - dimensioning of the system by capacity - defining and joing of basic manufacturing system models suitable in the conceptďs implementation phase, by which the manufacturing equipment group structure is determinated, mode of manufacturing process control, surface and price. The computer aid is developed in the Pascal program language.
