Summary: Problems encountered during the use, testing and repair
bywelding of catalytic pipes in process furnaces are reported.Certain types
of damages on catalytic pipes, appearing at hightemperature operation,
which significantly shorten the servicelife of whole unit ,are described.
Some suggestions for correctcontrol of the process are given, together with
parameters whichaffects life span of a pipe. Also, recommendations for
aappropriate selection of materials for high temperature serviceare given.

Summary: The paper presents the results of research of surface
hardening by laser beam transformation on specimens of structural steels
for improvement and tool steels when continuous 1,5 kw laser CO2 in used.
The possibility has been investigated of the use of laser CO2 focised beam
on carbon or alloy steels in the case of surface structural transformation
hardening, as well as the possibilitiy of calculating laser beam heat flow.
