Summary: The paper shows possibilities to describe qualitatively and
quantitatively the viscoelastic mechanical behaviour of thermoplastics.
These possibilities have been considered in regard to description
suitability and their practical applicability. The possibilities have been
considered in regard to description suitability and their practical
applicability. The empirical models, models of mechanical analogy and
integral models have been reviewed. Presented models are based on
phenomenological approach to viscoelasticity. However, we draw a
distinction betwen linear and non-linear material behaviour. Due to
specific loading conditions, thermoplastics, just as the other polymeric
materials mostly exibit non-linear behaviour in application. In order to
describe loading course (deformation history) methods based on appropriate
hypotheses as well as integral and numerical models have been considered.
