    Summary: The paper describes the possibility of obtaining a certain amount of electric power from wind power on the Adriatic coast and the islands of Croatia. Analysis of resources and cost calculations are made to show the benefits of power generation from wind turbine generators (WTGs). The need for a systematic choice of WTGs for the particular locations of wind power stations is pointed out. In the event of power shortage due booth to present power isolation of the Croatian Adriatic coast and the habitually low power inflow from the existing power stations, gradual construction of a number of WTG systems would help in periods when wind power is available. It would contribute to quicker development of tourism-oriented island economy and the production of healthy food.

    Summary: The paper presents an influence factors and criteria's analysis for an optimal wind turbine generator choice at selected site. The influence factors and criterion's selection as its significance has importance for the optimal wind turbine generator choice on a local wind potential available. Relations between the influence factors and criteria are established with the expert knowledge and adjusting by user/orderer. Results contrasting with are giving satisfactory ones. Due to comparing user and expert needs interactive computing workplace that is user frendly (expert system) and contains knowledge and data.

    Summary: The effectiveness of wind turbine generator systems (WTG systems) is wind resource site development. Therefore the problem of selecting possible locations for these installations is approached systematicaly, considering a set of relevant parameteres, especially those that have a significant economical and ecological effect. This paper presents the methodology of choosing the locations for installing a WTG system based on the concept of the systematic approach and multicriteria analysis supported by the geographical information system. Principal objectives (criterion) in location selection are: energy-economical, technical-technological, spatial-planning and environment and life protection objectives. The multicriteria valorization and ranking of potential locations represent very useful support to decision makers at wind power engineering menagment.

    Summary: Numerous publications around the world considering the economic wind energy utilization, prove that it can be achieved already now. The autor of this paper set forth the presumption that are to be met in order to achieve that aim. Partly they are in the hands of country's economic system designers and partly in the area of researching and developing teams that prepare the necessary basis. Systematic selection of wind potential location and WTGS is the precondition for the economic wind energy utilization. Based on published statistics of wind produced electricity, grid connected WTGS are found to be more efficient than stand alone WTGS. The need for the same criteria when comparing the specific cost of energy from various sources is pointed out, as well as the enforcement of energy production that benefits the environment protection.

    Summary: The paper presents an outline of the expert system dealing with the wind/electric energy conversion. Modifications of the serial wind turbine generators regarding their adjustment to specific site and corresponding restraints are considered as a part of the expert system procedure. Wind turbine rotor speed, diametar and blade setting are related to the mean power coefficient and capacity factor improvement.

    Summary: The paper deals with the layout of expert system (ES) for wind energy utilization and its application to specific project. ES-clarification procedure is developed to cope with most of the user's requests (accounting for project limitations and goals) and specifying thereby the ES inference engine reasoning to match WPS to the given site. Hierarchical multilevel addressing provides efficient manipulation with data bases containing wind energy data in Croatia and commercially available wind turbine generators (WTG) data respectively. The prospect of wind energy utilization on the Middle Adriatic island of Lastovo i.i., contribution of the wind power station Lastovo in electric power supply to the mainland grid and the local community, is predicted by applying ES inference engine. WPS-installed power is determined on account of comprehensive analysis which contains specific investment and energy cost optimisation criteria, as well as WPS matching to the island's grid.

    Summary: The optimal choice of the WTGS for the location characterized by its energy potential and its behaviour, or the selection of the best location of new WTGS plant is very important. A mostly driven engine in WTGS is a horizontal axis propeller type wind turbine and its optimization is very complex. The expert system was developed on purpose of the optimization of the WTGS according to the user's requirements and to the characteristics of the specific location. The brief description and the basic principles of the expert system are given in this article. Three main parts of the expert system are also described. These are data input system, two databases, one for the location and one for the commercial WTGS, and knowledge base with modern methods implemented in the inference engine (as they are fuzzy logic, associative memories, parallel processing, ...). A comparison between selected WTGS as result of the expert system and the optimal one designed through our simulation software is also available.
