Summary: This paper considers the possibilities of avoiding
normalizationafter the ESW process utilizing heat treatment in the
A1-A3interval. Along with a theotretical insight a set of experimentswas
conducted carefully examining notch toughness. The resultsshow that
considerably higher values are reached compared tountreated welds.
Nevertheless it is evident that furtherexperiments must be carried out in
order to determine the optimalparameters for A1-A3 heat treatment if
normalization is to beavoided.

Summary: The paper deals with the effects of metal powder as a
secondaryfiller material in submerged arc welding (SAW). The objective
ofthe experiments that were carried out was to determine changes inthe weld
metal structure as well as to define changes in the heatinput per unit
lenght. The experiments serve to evaluate the risein productivity but also
as pilot experiments for high speedelectroslag welding (ESW) with the
addition of metal powder.

Summary: This investigation deals with a modification of the
electroslagwelding processs in order to eliminate the main disadvantage
ofthe same; low joint toughness. The so called high speedelectroslag
welding process with the addition of metal powder asa secondary filler
material is investigated. The thermodynamicstability, process parameters
and reliable transport of metalpowder are described as well as neccessary
changes to alreadyexisting ESW equipment.

Summary: The paper analyses several ways and possibilities of
impoving thequality of electroslag welds that are otherwise characterised
bylow toughness because of coarse grains in the heat affected zoneand cast
dendritic structure of the weld metal. Three differentpossibilities are
analysed: various base and fillermaterials, various heat treatments after
welding andhigh speed electroslag welding.
