Summary: The present work has investigated the wear characteristic of various grey cast irons in lubricated sliding using pin-disk test machine. The wear mechanisms were studied using SEM observations. The wear rate and the kind of predominant wear mechanisms of investigated irons are closely related to cast iron matrix microstructure, specially to the morphology of its hard phase.
Keywords: Sliding wear, grey cast irons, abrasion, adhesion, fatigue wear

Summary: The present work has investigated the conditions for achievingthe predominantly martensitic-carbidic microstructure in theas-cast state in a chromium white iron by alloying with vanadium. The purpose of this invastigation was also to estabilish theabrasion- and impact resistance of a groups of chromium whiteirons on the basis of the abrasion test, dynamic fracturetoughness test, dropping ball test and marked ball test. It wasestabilished the compatibility of the wear mechanisms in thecement mill with those in abrasion test. A diagram was introducedshowing the dependence of the reliability of white iron balls forcement mills to dynamic fracture toughness and abrasionresistance of white irons.
Keywords: Chromium white iron, vanadium, cement mill, microstructure, dynamic fracture toughness, abrasion, reliability.

Proceedings title: Znanstveno stručni ljevački skup Zagreb 94
    Place: Zagreb
    Year: 1994
    Pages: from 71 to 81
    Held: from 04/15/94 to 04/15/94
Summary: On the basis of recent investigations of the microstructure and properties of white irons the author stresses the possibilities of broadening of the application of tthese alloys. It was shown the influence of the microstructure,,chemical composition and heat treatment procedures on the abrasion resistance and dynamic fracture toughness of some alloyed white irons. An example of the optimization of a chromiumžvanadium white iron is given showing the possibility of its applaying in cement mills.
    Keywords: White irons,optimization,abrasion resistance,dynamic fracture toughness,cement mills.
