Summary: The paper presents the dimension reduction method (DRM) applied in the analysis of a thick shell.A vertical octosymetricalcircular cylindrical thick shell is with constant thickness of h. The shell is elastic, homogeneous and isotropic. Strains ofpoints along the shell edge are equal to zero. The DRM and finite element method (FEM) are applied in the numerical solving of the problem. Strain u=(u,v,w) of points of the thick shell arecomputed. The computation was carried out at AT 386 computer. DRM significantly reduces the extent of the computation.

Summary: The numerical procedures for solving differential equations ofthe equilibrium of plane plates and shells are described in thepaper. The procedures are based on the finite difference method and, at that, derivations are approximated using centraldifferences. For internal nodes, the difference equations arederived in an usually way, while equations for nodes at girder edges are based on appropriate physical interpretations. Test calculation results show that these procedures are acceptable.

Summary: Besides the well-known algebraic condition for geometricalinvariability of static systems, the paper introduces a separate condition for static determinatess of system. Criteria foridentification of systems acording to static or kinematicproperties are formulated. Main aspects of automaticidentification of static systems are investigated. A procedurefor truss systems using Gauss-Jordan elimination is presented, aswell as the results of numerical examples. A possibility to extend the formulation for application on systems which comprise bodies is presented.

Summary: Methods for defining form of prestressed, flexible and tensile bearing structtures and for calculating stress and displacement for such structures are presented. In adition of sttructures exclusively composed of tensile elements, it is possible to form and analyse predominantly tensile structures with seeveral compression membres. Similar algorithms may also be used for defining the shape of compression structures. By changing the loading sign, tensile structures beecome compression structures, although the bending siffness must bee added to prevent the loss of stability.

Summary: One of the most important tasks in rebuilding of Croatia will be building of modern traffic routes with many long span bridges. Most of these bridge structures are situated in high seismicactivity regions. Seismic analysis for long span bridges isanalysis scientific project Durability of Structures. Proposal to modified modal analysis using earthquake spectra is described. The method produces estimations of structural response toearthquake excitations and not the exact values but this suffices for further analysis. A modern CQC method is proposed forcombination of modal maxima. A correct method for calculatingmodal forces is offered with review of previous seismic codesdisadvantages.

Summary: Algo-heurithm (AH) for generation of quality preliminary designs to bridge a big valley is described in the article. AH appliesintensively a large number of numerical optimization procedures, but also the most recent tehnology of heuristic reasoning andsymbolic programming. AH generates satisfactory solutions ofprestressed concrete bridge, constructed by cantilevering, on the basis of simultaneous satisfaction of four basic criteria, functionality, stability, economy and aestetics. The correctnessof the AH solution is based upon fulfillment of all theoretically proven and numerically verifiable conditions, but also oncareful consideration of previously collected structuralknowledge of such structures, features of existing bridges, previously AH generated solutions, market information and modern scientific aesthetics. The designer should make the final choice among a few best AH rated solutions, optained from a large number of generated alternatives. The adopted solution is stored in thedata-base of successfully generated computer solutions, aiming atpossible benefits in successive jobs.
