Summary: Limit state design has been adopted for the analysis of
structures. Ultimate limit state is connected with nonlinear analysis,
which is directly or indirectly included in the analysis. In the draft of
new international codes EUROCODE and ISO only some numerical models for
simple cases are prescribed. Further research is still in progress. In the
proposed project we shall actively participate in this research particulary
in connection with box-girders subjected to bending and torsion, the
application of cold formed steel for shear rigid walls, the rquired
rotation capacity in plastic range needed to the classification of cross
sections and the low-cycle fatigue of steel and composite bridge structure.
Composite columns shall be subject to detailed research, because their
structural capacity has not been uniformly defined.
Research goals: - incorporation of recent trends of development in
the field of metal and composite structures - boost to the competitive
ability of metal and composite structures - groundwork to introducing
new concepts of safety and stability checks through limit state analysis to
wider civil engineering community - contribution to technical codes and
standards - contribution to permanent education of engineers
